NAWABSHAH: Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that terrorism is no more a local problem; it has become a global issue and we should make concerted efforts to eliminate the menace instead of indulging in unnecessary criticism.

He said at the second convocation of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University here on Saturday that the issue of Afghan refugees in Sindh was sensitive as many Afghans were registered. They were in the process of devising a policy for the return of unregistered refugees, he said.

He said the present government had built more bridges than the past governments and work on construction of roads was continuing in various parts of the province.

Watercourses and channels were being paved to save water and improve farm sector, he said.

He said the present era was an era of fast changes and technology and only nations with the ability to adapt to changes would survive. Universities and quality education could play an important role in overcoming problems, he said.

Mr Shah said the students graduating from SBBU were ambassadors and they were lucky to have higher education as there were still great many youths in the country who did not have access to higher education.

He asked the management of the university to establish more campuses in different parts of the province with the support of the Sindh government.

SBBU Vice Chancellor Arshad Saleem said that they were providing high-quality education amid state-of-the-art facilities. Ninety per cent of the graduates who passed out last year were working in national and international institutions, he said.

He said the university had made serious efforts to curb the menace of copy culture in Sindh by installing CCTV cameras in all examination halls in the districts under its jurisdiction.

He urged the chief minister to approve a special grant of Rs500 million for the university.

Earlier, the chief minister distributed degrees and awards among 101 successful students of various disciplines including top position holders Ms Sajida Parveen, Ms Sadia Brohi, Ms Narmeen Noonari, Ms Kausar Khanum, Ms Quratulain, Ms Farah Naz, Ms Kainat Qazi, Ms Sabiha Zardari and others.
