Pakistan Army on Friday night targeted militant hideouts close to the Pak-Afghan border, DawnNews reported, quoting sources.

The Army reportedly targeted a training camp of Jamaat-ul-Ahrar — the banned terror outfit which claimed responsibility for the Feb 13 suicide bombing in Lahore and the Feb 15 suicide attack on the headquarters of the Mohmand Agency's political administration.

The camp was located near the Pak-Afghan border in areas adjacent to Mohmand and Khyber Agency, and was reportedly overseen by Jamaat-ul-Ahrar's deputy commander, Adil Bacha.

Sources said the Army destroyed the compound and four other terrorist hideouts. Militant casualties were reported, but there was no confirmation of the actual number.

The report could not be independently verified.

A few hours before the attack was reported, Army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa had called Gen John Nicholson, commander of the US's Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan, to protest continued acts of terrorism in Pakistan perpetrated from Afghanistan, saying they were "testing" Pakistan's policy of cross-border restraint.

Gen Bajwa had told Gen Nicholson that recent incidents of terrorism in Pakistan had been claimed by terrorist organisations whose leadership is hiding in Afghanistan, and asked him to play his role in “disconnecting this planning, direction, coordination and financial support”.

During the conversation with Nicholson, Bajwa also informed him of the list of 76 "most wanted" terrorists handed over to Afghan authorities earlier today.

The development came hours after the Inter-Services Public Relations announced that security forces had been given special orders to maintain strict vigilance along the Pak-Afghan border.

“The border has been closed since last night due to security reasons. No cross-border or unauthorised entry will be allowed into Pakistan from Afghanistan,” read an ISPR statement issued Friday.

The military's media wing also claimed to have killed more than 100 suspected militants in intelligence-based operations carried out by security forces across the country, including Punjab, in the 24 hours since the Lal Shahbaz Qalandar bombing.

nonstop sustained actions by the army/ranger/police should continue from khunjrab to gawadar and karachi to torkham against all evils. public should be vigilant and start combing their neighbourhoods and be a proactive part of this operation cleanup. only then we will be able to achieve the target of peaceful pakistan.

Everything done... No more suicidal blasts in Pakistan.. All terrorist killed, border closed.. Good luck...

naji Feb 18, 2017 02:12am

In my opinion this is not the solution, this is not the root cause of all this havoc. Go for long term planning instead short term solution. If you need to trim or remove this decease you have to do following immediately. 1. Plan and prove education to each child and adult. 2. Start new and heavy engineering projects, like dams, power plant, industrial complexes in private and government sector, mass transit projects for all big cities like 1960 era (when Ayub Khan build circular railways for Karachi and same was demolished in 1972-78). 3. Built new and large hospital complex for medical facilities through private sector. 4. Extensive project must start on population planning, Govt to support those families who have 2 kids only. 5. Restrict population move from rural to urban areas without appropriate reason.

DIL Feb 18, 2017 02:15am

we have been demanding Afghanistan to take actions since TTP is hiding in Afghanistan now all of a sudden they have training camps inside Pakistan territory!! . it puts a question mark on the authenticity of our claims .

Chandra's Feb 18, 2017 02:35am

Did any one asked them what do they want or can negotiate ?

gungo Feb 18, 2017 02:32am

Shouldn't have done before? Need to do lot more than that to address the problem.

Justwasif Feb 18, 2017 02:46am

Why not they destroyed it prior to the suicide attack?

Justwasif Feb 18, 2017 02:45am

Limited timely response only, any way its good if they really did it.

Wali Feb 18, 2017 02:50am

I thought all area was cleared already. We have not strategy to fix the root cause and the whole narrative of counter terrorism strategy.

POPULAR Feb 18, 2017 02:56am

Why not proactive?

AFRIDI Feb 18, 2017 03:18am

Saurabh Feb 18, 2017 03:36am

Yusuf Khan Feb 18, 2017 08:05am

Great job!

Jamil Iqbal Feb 18, 2017 08:08am

Using force is one short term solution but we have to change the mindset. As covered in NAP the type of education we impart in madares has to be reviewed. It's there the intolerance and extremism has to be eliminated. Most of the madares are owned/managed by few big names who are known leaders and politicians. They didn't even condemn the incidents of this week where innocent human beings lost their lives. Get them to do the right thing for our country.

Javed Arshad Feb 18, 2017 08:15am

Prima facie, hot pursuit seems quite justified after such heinous terror attacks against the innocent people and particularly when all the information and intelligence points to terror groups based across the border. However, when it comes to a targeted activity across the border, it should be a well calculated and thought out approach to be considered preferably after consultation with and approval of all stake holders across the border otherwise it may give a reason to our adversaries on the eastern border to follow suit.

SHAMSUDDIN MEMON Feb 18, 2017 08:22am

Good job

Azmeen Feb 18, 2017 09:53am

Excellent job. Eliminate all the terrorists from Pak.

boo ali Feb 18, 2017 09:58am

Get rid of this reactionary policy. Time has already lapsed for forming and acting on a sustained and meaningful strategy to tackle the menace of terrorism. It has already eaten up much of the country's economy, social and religious diveristy, tolerance, and most of all people's faith in the government and its institution.

mfk Feb 18, 2017 10:15am

@truth army will do whats needed to be done whether someone believes it or not

san Feb 18, 2017 11:09am

Appreciable, what about hide-outs in Pakistan? what about banned outfits those are active here? It won't work that way when we allow banned outfits to participate in elections. Recently, Maulana masrror janghvi won by-election for the Punjab Assembly, we are well-coming them in Assemblies ,so is that the way to fight against terrorism ? is it what national action plan is? Number of terrorists we kill (after these attacks) won't matter until and unless we put hands on these main culprits.Secondly,we have to be proactive.

KK Feb 18, 2017 12:36pm

why a different story from afghan side?? Per Afghan, civilian and two kids died in same attack.

Rahul kulkarni Feb 18, 2017 01:01pm

@Rayn aariz Is it possible?

Agha Feb 18, 2017 01:54pm

@ ZAK. " These foreign funded terrorists ,too will be wiped out, like previous ones were after Zarb e azb "

A real good one as always.

But this is surely and finaly a last clean up.! In fact this is the last phase of Zarb e azb !!

Jg Feb 18, 2017 02:01pm

The cause of terror is joblessness. Frustration no money idle people who have nothing to do . Idle mind is a devils worshiper. Untill people get what they deserve and these corrupt politicians stop lootinf public purse. These actions wont bring any lasting peace. Get rid of these corrupt elite and vote for people who dont eat up you money.

dost Feb 18, 2017 02:29pm

If they already known to hideouts then what were they waiting for, for anything to happen. This menhunt could be held before so this attack.

Tariq Haider Feb 18, 2017 02:33pm

Unlike proactive measures, our armed forces believe in conservative measures.

dost Feb 18, 2017 02:34pm

Until all we don't go towards modern education system and Atleast secondary education for all. This not only boots rapid economic development/patience in society.

Sayed Mehdi Raza Feb 18, 2017 03:20pm

@san well said

Pakistani Feb 18, 2017 03:37pm

Well Afghanistan was asking for it.

Dr. mohsin Feb 18, 2017 03:50pm

If RSM forces can send drones to kill militants on their wanted list inside Pakistan (who should ideally have no place here) then why can't we do something on other side of the border to punch in the teeth of international conglomerate nourishing terrorists progeny against Pakistan with special contribution of Banyas & thankless afghans? And if you can't take them out even after 3 yrs of APS then why use twitter so often Mr. ISPR spokesman? Don't you see how every other country tries to cut off the head of the snake?

JKhan Feb 18, 2017 03:59pm

@Rayn aariz No Army can eliminate terrorism. Army will assist. The people have to do this. If it was only for Army to do it , they would have done it . We the people are too callous and utterly stupid not to realize this. All countries who eliminated terror did this with people's help. Our people are like their leader who only thinks of self preservation.

shacklaure Feb 18, 2017 05:34pm

@naji be more specific with your point.
