NEW DELHI: A high-level US delegation, replete with an array of military platforms and personnel, will participate in the Aero India 2017 exhibition which opens in Bangalore on Tuesday, and of particular interest will be cooperation that appears to be looking at navigation in South China Sea and Maoist rebels in India’s heartland.

“US participation in Aero India provides industry and the military services opportunities to strengthen military-to-military relations and invigorate defence cooperation as we work together to safeguard against global instability, protects freedom of navigation in the air and sea, and combat terrorism and violent extremism,” the embassy said.

The term violent extremism appears to be similar to left-wing extremism that India uses to separate a clutch of secular insurgents holding forth across the country from Muslim extremists.

“This robust public and private participation from the United States in Aero India demonstrates the importance we place on advancing our Major Defence Partnership with India,” the embassy said.

US assets this year include F-16C Fighting Falcons, a P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft and a C-130J Super Hercules transport. A Pacific Air Forces F-16 demonstration team will showcase the capability of one of the US Air Force’s leading fighters and a combined India-US parachute demonstration is also planned.

Over 20 US companies are participating in fete, 17 with exhibits in the US Partnership Pavilion with three companies recently entering the Indian market and five new to the show, the statement said. A senior US navy officer recently told Indian journalists in New Delhi that the United States was helping India track Chinese submarines in the Arabian Sea.

The US government delegation includes MaryKay Carlson, Chargé d’Affaires of the US Mission to India; Beth McCormick, Director for the Defence Technology Security Administration; Heidi H. Grant, Deputy Under Secretary of the Air Force and others.

This is great!

sangun Feb 14, 2017 12:13pm

Is Pakistan not invited?

Ahamd Feb 14, 2017 12:17pm

@sangun This is only for companies showing their planes, jets and helicopters.

D Mandyal Feb 14, 2017 12:20pm

That's a great news, slowly and steadily everything is falling at right place for India. Thanks to Modi for his visionary & vibrant foreign policy.

PS Feb 14, 2017 12:18pm

@sangun This is not an exercise where you receive invites. Its Aero India show where air forces and private air acrobats apply and get permission from Indian government. Like China applied this time and is permitted to bring their toys.

rich Feb 14, 2017 12:30pm

we should invite pakistan too

after all they are neighbours

viv Feb 14, 2017 12:33pm

As per latest news, China is first time attending this event with its high level delegation. It will be an ice breaking event in the 10 year history of Aero India event.

KT Feb 14, 2017 12:31pm

There is defense satellite which links various fighter jets like F-16 or F-18 to form matrix group attack with multiple planes which is linked with control center. Then true usage of F-16 can then be fully utilized. USA has kept many such key technology features with itself.

Vikas Feb 14, 2017 12:34pm

@sangun Pakistan is having the same with the Chinese. All Chinese companies getting contracts in Pakistan are going to be there. From Garbage removal to data keeping, to census conductors to administrators, power company management, economic management, education consultants, health consultants, media management, foreign affairs management - basically all things Pakistan and its companies can't do will be there.

sodawaterbottleopenerwala Feb 14, 2017 12:38pm

saab , lockheedmartin ,boeing , israel, russian industries and european industries all eager for billion dollar contracts . with tag of make in and make for INDIA .

GK Netherlands Feb 14, 2017 12:37pm

" and combat terrorism and violent extremism,”

Violent Extremism is exactly what UN Secretary has said in different words to describe hate crimes.

We should be equally concerned about hate crimes because they are tearing off social fabric.

Good Initiative by India.

Murlidhar Nair Feb 14, 2017 12:38pm

Yes. Indians are more focused towards development and international business and joint ventures. This is a long term plan to eradicate unemployment in India. When it is called joint venture, it means Indians will be working on these projects, not like CPEC where Chinese are working and Pakistanis are watching.

saudagar ( indian) Feb 14, 2017 12:43pm

@sangun ; pakistan is most welcome , ATITHI DEVO BHAVA is saying in my land . lets keep k issue and good-bad terrorism away and embrace humane nature we have.

Explained in simple terms : As per Todsy's news the Trump Administration is taking a fresh look at Lockheed's proposal to have a F-16 manufacturing base in India if New Delhi agrees to buy the fighter jets, company officials said on Monday.

Lockheed has its subsidiaries since 2008 and in joint venture with TATAs they are already in production of advanced equipment and supplies. There are other joint venture also

Dr. SalariA, Aamir Ahmad Feb 14, 2017 03:35pm

This is just a gimmick to deflect and divert the attention from real issues faced by more than 80 percent of the Indian masses i.e. hunger, shelter, bathrooms, clothes, healthcare, living amenities, utilities and what have you?

@Dr. SalariA, Aamir Ahmad Sir as per WB poverty line only 12% Indian are below poverty line as per 2016 data . Yes there are few dark spots which needs to be remove & trust me Indian Govt & public are working to erase them as quickly as possible. But some people always see glass empty . Can't help them. Good luck for Pakistan .

JK Feb 14, 2017 04:03pm

Dr. SalariA, Aamir Ahmad Dr Saheb, living condition is improving & poverty reducing in India day by day with the honest efforts of govt. Trend is towards improvement, it will not happen overnight, but concrete actions have been taken. Budgetary allocation for the farmers in India for the year 2017-18 is INR 10 lac crore, which you can just imagine. What about pakistan ?

SID Feb 14, 2017 04:05pm

@Shahryar Shirazi Are you in 1980's ?? As per WB report 2016 only 12.6% of Indian population is under below poverty line & will eradicate it by 2025. You take care of your own.

rajendra Feb 14, 2017 04:05pm

This bi-annial AERO show biggest in ASIA(bigger than any in Japan/China/Middle east etc). This is not US specific, every country/company in AEROSPACE business participate in this.

Deals worth minimum 10 billion USD are signed every time. All domestic and international airlines place their orders during this event.

SID Feb 14, 2017 04:06pm

@Sarfaraz This is due to large size ( 1.3 billion people ) . Also check the report that India is reducing its poverty rate at faster than target rate .

Dr Saheb, Poverty in India is decreasing day by day & hence condition of people improvino, if you look at budgetary allocation for farmers for 2017-18 is INR 10 lac crore, that speaks about the concrete actions, poverty is not reducing overnight, but the trend is towards improvement, what about pakistan ?

Nikesh Feb 14, 2017 04:14pm

@Saif Zulfiqar Entire Service Industry & IT industry across the globe are using India's IT services which according to you despite being dirt cheap is very expensive. Just check valuation of Infosys or TCS. India's medical service is one of the best and yes again you are correct here its cheap and affordable to serve the humanity India's Mars mission and satellite launches are cheapest in the world. Innumerable agri products sold across the globe are cheapest in the world. largest milk producer in the world again a cheap commodity for basic human sustenance. Yes we need to catch up in manufacturing which we are doing steadily...

HD Feb 14, 2017 04:23pm

@ RAJENDRA " Deals worth minimum 10 billion USD are signed every time. All domestic and international airlines place their orders during this event."

Very right information on this. And this time because of many Joint ventures already in place India estimate to clock deals of minimum 3 billions USD for production in India ... Good Luck !!

Taking advantage of this they are going for shifting production facilities in India if approved by Trump

Ali Feb 14, 2017 07:38pm

The US arms manufacturers can display their wares in Aero India exhibition. However, this should not be to destabilize the military balance and security in the region. India should not threaten its smaller neighbors Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bhutan.

India had defied the world to develop nuclear weapons, no country will ever attack India. To spend hundreds of billions of dollars to acquire additional conventional weapons is "insanity", when majority of the population lives below poverty level. PM Modi should be a man of peace and friendship, not of death and destruction.

umesh Feb 14, 2017 08:56pm

SS Feb 15, 2017 04:13am

@Dr. SalariA, Aamir Ahmad Quite the contrary. The issues you mentioned are also being addressed but do not make great news. This one does!

Sandeep Feb 15, 2017 06:20am

Actually that was posted by Viv. You should direct your question to him. Henceforth I am putting "" around others' comments. Anyway I will still take your question. It is not a goodwill event. It's a business event where Companies come, show what they have and sell.

I have watched these shows from ages ago - when it was really in its infancy. We'd have spectacular displays by russian pilots in their MIG29s and SU27s - top combat planes back then (mid 90s).

Indian pilots would perform in their MIG21s. Most people will find it hard to believe how GOOD those displays were.

Today that aircraft have a bad rap, and we no longer see them in display. But believe me, they'd give most modern aircraft a run for their money where sheer power and performance are concerned.

kevin Feb 16, 2017 12:21am

lafanga Feb 16, 2017 01:21am

@sangun This is a show and tell for big arms manufacturers. India is committed to spending $250 billion on arms. With Saudis slowing down on arms buying spree, India is emerging as next big market for US and Western arms manufacturers.

last word Feb 16, 2017 06:18am

Modi is keeping a perfect balance in making Indian economy stronger along with acquiring armaments which will be made in India for long term benefits both military and commercial purposes. India is following an independent foreign policy of keeping friendship with Iran along with military and commercial ties with US and other countries. Pakistan also needs to boost its economy focusing on CPEC than wasting money on nuclearisation and purchasing armaments to match India.

sajed syed Feb 16, 2017 06:26am

@Vikas , Ha ha ha. Good one

wasim muhammad rathore Feb 16, 2017 06:48am

Sekhar Feb 16, 2017 07:57am

This show has been going on for sometime. But a significant aspect of this year is the stress on manufacturing/assembling or sourcing parts in India. Would mean more jobs and might also lower costs. That's a template other countries should follow.

Sandeep Feb 16, 2017 08:54am

@zak Zulfiqar saab. And who better to say about China and cPEC than you?

Snehal Chaudhari Feb 16, 2017 10:48am

India will be buyers. Not sellers.

Yadu Feb 16, 2017 01:52pm

@SID I don't know how people in Pakistan are so misinformed about India. For your information, as per German Engineering Federation report, by 2020, 68% of India's population is expected to be in the middle class (lower to upper) which means they will be in the income group of 3.5 lakh to 20 lakh rupees per year. Another 26% will belong to rich (lower rich to super rich) class. 6% will be below 3.5 lakhs, which still doe not mean below poverty line.....still if you consider it that way, even US has more than 6% in their lower income category by their living expense scales.

harris Feb 16, 2017 02:23pm

Well good luck India, you have to compete with the Chinese giant, hence military to military strengthening ties with USA is a good move but still American prerogative rather than Indian. We were once in that situation against Russia..

gogo Feb 16, 2017 03:40pm

aditya Feb 17, 2017 07:14am

@Mohammad S. Khalid madrassah education lately?

Hari Har Feb 17, 2017 02:06pm

@saudagar ( indian) We need to understand that Pakistan is also not short of genius, competent and creative people. They are well advanced in missile technology and nuclear weaponry. Militarily Pakistan is more diversified than India because of close and strategic partnerships with China, Russia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and U.A.E. Pakistan has been a front-line military ally of the USA. Pakistan manufactures military hardware and sells including J-17, J-20 fighter jets. We should not rely on USA because they will ditch us in the longer run like they did to Pakistan.

Yash Feb 17, 2017 04:27pm

@Mohammad S. Khalid . I must salute you for your knowledge! Keep educating yourself like this which will be good for you.
