At least 13 people were killed and 85 injured when a suicide bomber struck Monday evening around 6pm outside the Punjab Assembly in Lahore during a protest, police officials said.
Inspector General of Police (IG) Punjab Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera confirmed that six police officials were among the dead, including two senior officers.
85 people were also injured in the attack, which he said had targetted police officials present at the site.
The Jamat-ul-Ahrar claimed responsibility for the attack.

"The suicide attacker was on foot," Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Chief Dr Mohammad Iqbal had revealed earlier.
SSP Operations Zahid Gondal of Punjab Police and DIG Traffic Lahore Capt (retd) Ahmad Mobin were among those killed in the attack.
Hours earlier, DIG Mobin had been seen on television, mediating with the protesters gathered at the site.

Mobin was reportedly at the site to negotiate with protesters for an end to the sit-in and to clear the area.
A large group of chemists and pharmaceutical manufacturers were gathered in front of the provincial assembly to protest a government crackdown against the sale of illegal drugs. There was a significant presence of law enforcers in the area while the protest was ongoing.
Up to 400 people had attended the protest, according to an AFP reporter who was on the scene when the explosion occurred.

Rescue services, including ambulances and fire tenders, reached the scene soon after the attack. An emergency was also declared in all hospitals of Lahore. Majority of the casualties were shifted to Mayo Hospital and Ganga Ram Hospital.

Contingents of Pakistan Army and Rangers also reached the site.
The security forces cordoned off the area with tents, with the inner cordon taken over by Army personnel. Forensic teams were collecting evidence and had started initial investigations.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif condemned the attack and reiterated Pakistan is in decisive fight against terrorism while praising the sacrifices of the slain security personnel.
Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa instructed local military commanders and intelligence agencies to provide all necessary assistance to civilian authorities and arrest those responsible, a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) read.
Terror alert

In a Feb 7 notification addressing the Home Secretary, Punjab, the Provincial Police Officer and DG Pak Rangers Punjab, the National Counterterrorism Authority (NACTA) had warned of a possible terrorist attack in Lahore.
NACTA had directed that all vital installations, including important buildings, hospitals and schools, be kept under strict vigilance.
"Extreme vigilance and heightened security measures are suggested to avoid any untoward incident," the notification added.
Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said that maximum preparations were made after the threat alert was received.
“The spot where the blast took place is always under threat. Even if there was no alert, strict security measures are always taken in the area.”

Oh God. Please help the injured people. Nothing should happen to them.
Sad news, This is part of the plan to move the PSL final out of Lahore.
Well we knew this was coming, as there was plans to have PSL final in lahore!
:( when will this stop?
Hope for least casualties... Terror in any form ( good or bad ) should be contained..Sooner you guys understand that better for both the countries
@Indian sir please keep your nice ADVICE muted we know what is terror and who is behind all this stuff. Pray for Lahore
The perpetrators are too obvious.
Everyone knows who is against cricket returning to Pakistan. Inhuman.
Lets hope there are no casualties.
Feel sorry for the victims.
Sad incident,
@Indian Preaching could have been done later. For now , we could have shown solidarity with people who are injured.----coming from an Indian.
I have no shadow of Doubt, this is to target PSL Final in Lahore
Psl final :-(
@Nomi Goraya Well, then congrats...
Our Prayers are with the victims of this tragic news.
V need to dismantle this terror outfits who operate here..
@Indian Thank you for your ADVICE would request you to keep out of us. We very well know who is behind what
The way private TV channels are now showing burning cars and injured people, they are actually doing exactly what the purpose of this blast was; spread fear and uncertainity to move the PSL out of Lahore.
sorry state of pakistan....
This is what happens when you refuse to follow any rules and law. A sad, sad situation. I'm furious at the loss of lives which should not have happened if rule of law would have been accepted.
@inqelab zindabad I can pray for you as well ..... along with all those who have suffered in this coward act .
Prayers for the innocent people. Time to clean up the house.
No mercy for terrorists.........Pakistan should take it top priority.
@Huma It was finished when General Raheel was in command. We need him again as a commander of Pakistan
@Nomi Goraya Truth Hurts, Its Sad But Its True. We need to Fight it back Good or bad whatever. Else people will keep falling.
A Pakistani!
Somebody is not happy about PSL final due to be played in Lahore. Search these people and crush them.
I cant believe readers are linking this dastardly act to cricket! Grow up
No blasts in Lahore for a year. PSL announced and blasts takes place why am i not surprised?
All lives are important but loss of trained officers are more so. Our foolishness of not to accept the rule of law has bereft us of honest and dedicated officers of police. RIP. May God has mercy on this nation.
@Ahmad Sir with all due respect it is time to show solidarity to show sympathy as all other things can be discussed latter on.
Condolences from India. And people please don't fight over PSL. PSL is not bigger than lives of people
We need to clean up this mess in our country...
@Ali yeah please crush them. Even India is with you.
Condemnable and inhuman act.
Ch.Nisar should resigned...
Military courts are required without any delay. The expiration of military courts has embolden the terrorists.
First of all I feel bad for all those who have lost their loved ones , what surprises me is that people are more concerned about the PSL final, I hope those responsible for this cowardly attack are punished severely.
We condemn death of innocents.
Everyone knows who is behind this episode of terror.
@Nomi Goraya . Well said
One more attack on us, Let's join hand to gather and defeat the terrorist sympathizers.
This is terrifying. Saw the drone footage on Samaa.
@alsam Seems like psl is more imp to you guys
With the announcement of PSL final in Lahore, such terrorist was very much expected. The enemy and his designs were well known. Unfortunately failure lies on our part in having failed to foil plans enemy.
Billions of dollars have already been spent on war on terror and we lost many of our brave soldiers but unfortunately still almost each and every month a new bomb blast or suicide attack occurs in Pakistan and innocent Pakistani people die on regular baaia. Please develop a complete new strategy and first make the borders stronger than ever before because Strong Borders = Secure Nation. Try to close the borders with Afghanistan and erect laser security walls on the border to stop the terrorists crossing the border and entering into Pakistan. Send the Afghan refugees back to their country because now they can easily move back to their homes in Afghanistan. Keep an eye on Madrasas in Pakiatan and check their syllabus and check them on regular basis via CCTV as well. Also invest some time, money and efforts in eliminating the deep-rooted corruption from Pakistan as well otherwise no operation against the terrorists will ever work. End of corruption is also the end of terrorism. Good luck.
Target was PSL and its not a rocket science to understand who engineered it !
Oh my god... Prayers...
Oh god when this bloodshed of innocent people will stop
Sad to hear.. Let this terror menace come to end. RIP to all those who lost
Sad, very sad.I pray for the departed souls.
@Nomi Goraya ; INSANITY - doing same thing over and over again expecting a different result! -einstein albert
@Nomi Goraya Dude, stop blaming for what happened. Look into yourself and your policies which led to this. Hope Lahore will emerge out of this mindless crime stronger.
Rangers must do operations in Punjab..........
Very sad. RIP innocents.
shameful act. RIP
@Nomi Goraya Oh yeah Sherlock you know already ? Then why couldn't you stop it ? Don't start the blame game Pray for Lahor.
RIP
Sad!
More people killed in yet another terrorist incident! What will it take for us to come out against terrorists of all shades and hues? STOP Terrorists NOW - of ALL kinds! No Blame, No game, All same!
Sad news
No more PSL final in Lahore :(
Most heinous crime this is. Prayers for the injured and for the ones who lost their loved ones.
What we all can say is that violence in any form is not serving any purpose for any one. Terrorism is the worst thing and people are just destroying their own and others life by indulging in terror activities.
God enlighten all.
God damn it! Not again!
First PSL scandal and now this - Pakistan must take reciprocal actions to counter it.
psl final unlikely then?
@Nomi Goraya : Change your attitude & mentality bro.
Let's hope it is not as bad as the Lahore attack that happened last year.
This happens despite the intelligence and warning. This is the saddest part of the story.
So, PSL wont be played in Lahore..!!
Here we Go again. New army chief needs to act now, as we know local government can't perform basic duties.
OMG My thoughts are with the families which lost their loved ones.
In front of the Assembly, this is an attack against the elected representatives of the people, their leader Shahbaz Sharif and democracy.
@Mustafa Get your head out of the sand.
. We are fighting against the agencies of the different countries who want to destabilise Pakistan. If you cannot support us then at least don't pass insensitive comments - to Indians
Sad at the deaths of so many people.
Sad incident!
If a terror alert was issued why the protesters were allowed to gather in the vicinity of sensitive area?
No PSL final in Lahore, prime motive.
Sad news..full support to pak against the war of terrorism.
There are so many other serious problems in Pakistan and yet, people are linking this to PSL final. Pakistanis need to wake up and be more sensitive towards what is going on in your country.
When the operaiton was not extended by General Raheel to Punjab, this is the result.
don't know why everybody is worrying about psl final, sic..
Of course India and Afghanistan are behind this gruesome attack, we have no doubts!!!
Motive on the surface seems to be PSL.
Well its clear now, which state actually wants cricket to not happen in Pak. Very coward action.
It's part of bigger game. Things were getting normal in Lahore for cricket to return. India is behind it as Modi openly said it several times to isolate Pakistan.
God save the injured
@Mustafa I appreciate your views. Every one is linking the incident with PSL. I AM REALLY PRAYING FOR THE INJURED FOR THEIR SPEEDY RECOVERY. The people who they died in this inhuman terrorist act, their soul rest in piece.Prey All mighty to give strength to their relatives to bear the untimely loss of their kin
Sad -may those who passed away Rest In Peace and those injured get a speedy recovery - an Indian.
RIP the departed souls
Gigantic people have been lost , what a great loss to Pakistan, a very sad news.
@Sensible Neighbor - Nice thoughts...thanks!
Just when we start thinking that all seems well and we are moving forward. Somebody, be it national or international entity likes to keep a check on us.PSL final hangs in fate.
the NCTA was aware and advised caution....govt was sleeping
@logic Foolish and out of context comments.
On the news we always hear about Karachi beeing unsafe. But Lahore is not safe either.
This valentines day lets express our love and respect for the brave police officers. Lets defeat terror and intolerance together. RIP Brave Hearts
Reading at some of the comments from the Pakistani friends it seemed psl final in Lahore is more important than sending sympathy to victims family.RIP .
This area had 100 percent security. Alas the innocent dozens of life lost in Lahore. Condolences
@alsam What is PSL? Is it more important than lives of innocent cut short by jihadis?
Nothing will change without rangers operation in Punjab to exterminate extremists. The pmln gov elite can only give statements.
My heart as an Indian goes to victims of Terror.
It's plain and simple--the failure of intelligence agencies of the province of Punjab.
@Nomi Goraya Disappointed
Lives are lost and sad to see people more bothered about psl. Humanity should be first.
This is inhumane. People are concerned more about cricket than lost lives and shattered families.
Each time Lahore bleeds, I feel terrible about it... As a Delhiite, I've always loved this city..
God please bless this city and its people. Loads of prayers from India for Lahore and Pakistan. Peace
Very Sad Day for Pakistan! Innocent people martyred for no reason! We need Raheel Sharif back as Army Chief!
Yet another sad day for the people of Pakistan. RIP.
@Sarai Alamgir People are dying and all you cared about PSL. Shame
Intelligence agencies were already aware of the possibility of an attack. Despite this, protest was allowed in front of the assembly. Not very intelligent. Above all, my fellow countryman are worried about the psl final
Most shameful for the Punjab government, which has been openly resisting Rangers' action against the terrorists in the province. When it is evident to even an ordinary citizen that terrorist activities cannot be eliminated completely if action against the terrorists is not taken throughout the country, why the Punjab government does not allow action in Punjab raises valid questions against the sincerity of Shahbaz Sharif to weed out terrorists from Punjab.
Sacrifices of Army, Rangers, Police personnel will continue to go in vain till political expediencies remain supreme. Shameful example of governance in Punjab.
Every1 please for GOD's sake leave religion, nationalism, communalism aside for a few minutes and think about the families who have lost their loved one's.
Think about the despair and agony the loved one's have to suffer for their lives.
I am an Indian and I pray to GOD (whichever name he is called) to protect my Pakistani Brothers and sisters from this kind of attacks against Humanity.
Jai Sai
@Nerd Really insensitive to talk about PSL at this time of grief.
@Babar Mumtaz the world heard such comments for past 35 years - where's action?
Very sad ... my deepest condolence to the family of deceased. God give them strength to wear the loss.
Very sad...
Terrorists can strike anywhere and any time they want in Pakistan. No matter what pronouncements you hear from your government that is a fact.
@shiva
God helps only those who help themselves.
@FAREED HUSSAIN
Please don't be so insensitive as to talk about PSL at this time of immense national grief.
@Nasir There is more to life than cricket and PSL. The final can take place in Karachi or Islamabad
@AdityA rAj
Extremely insensitive of such people, indeed.
Condolences to Pakistani brothers from Turkey.
@Kashif Iqbal
For God sake, stop talking about cricket in this scenario of blood letting.
As long as laws for rich and poor remain different, no one should expect any positive change or result of any operation or action plan...
Please focus on security measures rather than blaming others. We both are brothers.
@Sarai Alamgir do you seriously feel cricket is the most important thing in the world that someone would kill people for it?
We all know who is behind this!! same people who attacked Srilankan team
@Nomi Goraya even before investigations are started you know the culprits? Please pray for the dead and their families rather than playing blame game.,sir
@inqelab zindabad it's not time for such comments when innocent people killed
these protester were protesting against crack down on sale illegal drugs but why?
illegal drugs are harmful to human
sad people are killed
Sad incident, incompetent people still cant find who is doing such incidents from inside or outside the country. Surgical strikes needed to eliminate such incidents
My heart goes out to the victims. When will madness end. All of us should stop identifying with narrow boundaries and think ourselves as one race of humans...that is the only real identity nature has given us, others are just made by our minds.
Oh My God ! This is Insane, cruel. Stop it for once and for all !! RIP
Just reading the comments. It's so sad. Lahoris are sad for PSL final and not for the lives. This is, in fact, the real sad state of Pakistan.
@Ahmad , Sincere salute to you for receiving the message from Mr.Indian in proper spirit, unlike NOMO GORAYA. There is no meaning in only " showing solidarity to show sympathy", without learning anything from the incident to prevent reoccurring of such incidences.
I am from India and this is very very sad and unfortunate. The people, the cops who dies were Innocent, may God give them peace. May their families withstand these losses, I am so shocked and sad. But now Mr Sharif will give his statement that we will give befitting reply and will not spare the culprit. Innocent die while politician just speak the same language. No time for politics, condolences from a sad Indian.
Rana Sana Ullah should be fired! We should show zero tolerance to incompetent people.
This attack is possible conspiracy against PSL final.
big conspuracy to derail peace process in pakistan.
@TruMpatic
This shows our priorities as a nation. Instead of taking the government to task for such monumental security failures and lapses with ever-increasing frequency, some people tend to be more concerned about whether PSL final takes place in Lahore or not. Really pathetic. It reminds me of the blood letting that used to be arranged as a sport in ancient times in Roman amphitheaters or arenas.
Very very sad. Just pray for the families who lost their loved ones. unfortunately, reap what you sow.
big conspuracy to derail peace process in pakistan.
Just outside the Assembly, this is a direct attack on democracy.
My sympathy with them..May god bless their soul and requesting all the officials to bring justice for all the people who martyr their life for the nation.
Its not like we r not concerned about casulties. We r trying to understand the motives behind the attack, which came to disrupt any positive activity in pakistan.
So sad, united we stand.
So Sad!
@kashirmri
Conspiracy or no conspiracy, it is our responsibility as a nation to root out terrorism from Pakistan.
Terrorists who do this are the people who are hopeless of any improvement in their circumstances.
We need a government who can fulfill the hopes of people. It is not impossible, all you need to do is bring in capable government.
Sad to see lives lost.
Oh My God !! Please save innocent people of Pakistan. This is strongly condemnable terror incident that has killed a great number of people.
Indian terror infra in Afghanistan must be rooted out by force, otherwise they will keep on hitting our civilians with impunity.
Feeling sorry for the innocent lives. When will the govt do something effective to stop these suicide attackers and all types of violent groups.
@Sarai Alamgir So for you events are more important than people's life.
@Nomi Goraya RIP sad to see the common people suffer god be with them
Terrible. This is so sad and totally irrational. Hopefully the injured will get prompt medical attention.
This is Another sad day for people of Lahore and Pakistan. May the injured and the bereaved have rest and peace. PSL 17 final or No Final in Lahore the suffering of people of Pakistan goes on. When our own people are intent on harming Pakistan what is the point of blaming outsiders. I am sure some ttp outfit will claim responsibility (sic) and brag about it.
And then our provincial justice minister says such an attack had been on the cards and the security was beefed up obviously not tight enough. If terrorists can get close to the provincial assembly - is there anything safe in Lahore. Justice minister should resign.
This is part of Modi's plan to isolate Pakistan. India must stop state-sponsored terrorism before things spiral out of control.
If the law enforcement agencies ware informed about the terrorist incident happening in Lahore then why they could't take prior action to stop it. My condolence to the bereaved families, RIP the departed souls.
R.I.P souls. We will not this deter us from the the path of peace we have been on. We will not let this be ppp days, where we were getting used to blast and killing every day and it was a routine. Nothing more important than peace to us Pakistanis. Long live our Pakistan, long live our intelligence agencies who have foiled so many of these attempts of attacks on innocent people. Love you my Pakistan always and always, those who are behind will meet their Karma.
sad for what happened.
@Sensible neighbor Thank you, there are some evil forces on both sides who keep on hurting each other. R.I.P souls who were lost.
If there was an alert issued, how come no adequate security provided for the provincial assembly? How can Rana Sanaullah explain security situation (not in all of Punjab but just) in Lahore? He always make tall claims about his preparedness etc. this alert was only 5 days old, where were the security forces checking people for explosive? dont think they take these alerts seriously. I will lay full responsibility on Rana!!
@Nomi Goraya Love to you my brother, don't let this hurt you, I understand your pain and also aware that there are forces on both sides of the border who are causing this.
Pakistanis have paid a heavy price for peace and we will keep this peace alive at all cost. Long live Pak Armed forces, intelligence agencies, police, levies etc., Pakistan Zindabad and Pakistan Paindabad! Those who are behind this will meet their karma.
Sad incident.
RIP departed souls and heart wrenching. Take an action against Taliban in Punjab please army.
Every time government says , not again and then it happens again and again !
Sad news and prayers for the injured and the dead. But please stop worrying about cricket or PSL finals and see the larger picture. Not the time to worry about cricket or drama or festivals.
Every time an attack like this happens, innocent lives are lost. I hope the perpetrators get caught and befitting punishment is given to them. May God give strength to the victims families to bear the loss. RIP
I could not understand that why DIG Traffic came for negotiation, why not govt officials, I mean to say ministers or the concern ministry representative. Actually they are all busy in some others works and every knows from morning to evening they are busy in press conference or on Tv for talk show.
The saddest part here is the comments and worries of Pakistani friends regarding PSL. Is cricket the only passion left and does it rank higher than lost lives and broken families? Don't you guys think everything else can wait, first try to bring normalcy to the country. Prayers for affected families.
Sad -Prayers for those who passed away Rest In Peace and those injured get a speedy recovery !
Prime motive behind the attack seems to be sabotage the PSL final due to be played at Lahore ?
Looks like those who doesn't want cricket in pak behind this. I think ttp is working for them.
May the souls rest in peace. Wish this is never happen in Pakistan or India. God bless all.
Saddened to read the news and we pray for the souls of many innocents who died and their suffering families. Please fight terrorism with a steadfast mind and let's all join together to eradicate this evil from earth
deepest sympathy to all
@ChodharyMay God bless the lost souls and the families
our heart and thoughts are with the victim of Lahore blasts. we need to make better to our police and law enforcement agencies to improve the planning and strategy to do stop this kind of bomb blast, even when we have already alert of suicide why the plan gone toward failure if we have, or Not then when we will able to secure the life of innocent people.
My heartfelt sympathies with all those who are affected. This was bound to happen as to sabotage the PSL final.
Sad that terror alert was ignored by the agitators...!! How much more to expect from security forces and Military ?
Cricket or no cricket. It is case of Terrorism. Terrorism is to be rooted out from Pakistan. They shall not be allowed to operate at any cost.
Need operation as per NAP in Punjab so we don't run into these situations..
Very sad! It is very obvious that indian backed terrorist groups in Afghanistan, operate to destabilize Pakistan..RIP.
Such a Sad News, all the culprits should be punished with full force.
We all know who is responsible for this and why it happened ..!
@Chodhary - Stop this blame game and work toward peace with all your neighbors. That is the only way to ensure safety of our citizens.
So sad. Rest in peace, the departed ones. Hope for a speedy and full recovery of those who were injured.
Sad ...
@Prince Dmello it is not about PSL only. The main motive behind all this is to keep Pakistan out of hosting any international event by declaring it as an unstable state.
@Umair Absolutely.
Condolences for all family members of the victims
Very sad to hear that.
@indian totally agree with you.
@Indian, you know who is going this mate?
Too sad.
Such a cowardice act. RIP
My heart weeps tears of blood and feeling really annihilated after coming to know the brutal act of terrorism... My support is with bereaved families... and those injured deserve special care... RIP the departed souls...
Bad ,should be stopped.
very sad.heart felt condolences for those families whose dear ones lost thier lives? pray for get well soon for those injured.
RIP. It is indeed tragic that precious lives including senior police officials have been lost in this mindless suicidal attack. However, this is also a sharp reminder to the govt to unwind some militant organisations considered friends of the state.
Very sad... arrest and punish the culprits.
It hurts to see senseless violence. May God give strength to the families of the victims. The perpetrators should be crushed no matter who they are. Nothing can justify this violence. Hope to see peace in the region. -from an ordinary Indian citizen.
@shoaib fareed Agree for the sake of humanity.
Praying for all Lahore and all Lahohies.
It is a sad day. Our hearts go to the families of those who lost lives and also to those who are hurt.
May they please have strength to to carry on under these horrible circumstances.
My prayers for the dead and the survivors.
Very sad, RIP. Whole world should work together to work against terror ideologies and their followers and supporters. Any innocent life lost to this madness and intolerance reflects on human failure to stay together with different ways of life and faiths.
May almighty god save the injured.
When govt and army were aware that PSL final to be played in Lahore then why they didn't secure the city. Missing you Raheel Sharif!
@raffay: you seems to have known so much, should have alerted security forces, could have saved so many innocent lives.
@Nomi Goraya Yes bruv, I am totally with you on this. Hope and pray that there are no more innocent casualties in this act of terror.
Its nothing to do with PSL, its called collateral damage always happens during WARs so it's time to accept and move on and find the way how to tackle with this again... my condolences for the deceased families.
This is a terrorist attack, nothing to do with Lahore or Cricket, come on guys, why try to find a way to blame other countries when we have so many issues in our country? High time we realize that terrorism can not be eradicated without political will.
Why are people commenting & wondering about PSL after such a terrible terrorist attack? Do you guys understand how insensitive that sounds, even if you guys are incapable of feeling any sympathies for the victims & their families?
@Nomi Goraya. Pray for what? It's too late for the victims & their families. It's time for action not praying... action to eliminate ALL terrorists.
For quite some weeks there had been no such attacks so I was very happy and planned to meet my mother in the last week of the month but this attack has shattered me again. How enjoyable was he I was there. When this could be eliminated is my only question? I wish Pakistan should be as peaceful as it was in 1976 when I flew out overseas for empoyment, aameen. Iqbal Hadi Zaidi, Kuwait.
I knew it.,,Government should have taken measures already to foil such conspiracy against revival of cricket in LHR and Pakistan.
Condolences from neighbors
Extremely bad may those who lost their lives rest in peace and those injured recover soon and I pray for the end of this madness but my Pakistani friends are linking it to PSL amd floating conspiracy theories which is bad you are blaming without any proof let the agencies find who is behind it .
The government must protect lives and properties of the people and if they are incapable of discharging that onerous duty then they must step down on this account alone, if they have any conscience. This blood bath has been going on through out Mr.Zardari and Mr.Sharif's tenure. Get rid of the corrupts and think about Pakistan .For God sake ,shun the loyalties you pledged to corrupt politicians .Do not be entrapped by their false promises .Rulers themselves have blood on their hands!!!
Had the NACTA made its notification public, the entire population of the city would have been alert and on guard.
Secrecy kills.
Condolences for the innocent lives lost. A request to Pakistani friends to not believe in conspiracy theories and only trust facts.
A despicable act. May God help the victims.
The present rulers are not security risk rather they are security threat. They are themselves hindrance in the way of National Action Plan.
Inocent getting killed. Sad. Get rid of all terror outfits no matter who they are.
Am shocked to hear of this blast, obviously a mindless act of the ignorant suicide bomber killing innocents, acts like this must be contained, may God bless good sense to the misguided elements so they understand an act like this will do no good. I pray peace to soul of the departed.
Lahore needs a clean up operation like Karachi ... But Khadim-e-Aala will never let it happen.
Time to get rid of ALL terrorist, not just bad ones.
We all know without doubt whose behind it ,we have a bad neighbour who can't see us make progress and is itself is being isolated and is a state of fear and hatred for the ethnic minorities ,it had a lot to do with psl,but inshaAllah we are Pakistanis not cowards who hide amongst women and explode bombs in public ,these cowards won't succeed
Sad incident, feel sorry for the innocents
so many people concerned about PSL final, third class mentality!
@Anurag but who's committing crimes?
May there be peace, love and kindness everywhere
It is very disheartening to see many comments from Pakistani readers linking this unfortunate incident with PSL final and throwing in all sorts of conspiracy theories. Why would any one want international cricket not to return to Pakistan? what difference it make to anyone? It is childish.
Lahore is the best city of Pakistan. We should have more protection for the nice people of Lahore. I am from India but I have heard lot about the culture, food and fun that are going on in this city. And, please it has nothing to do with PSL final. Feel sorry and praying for the family who lost their love one.
too bad but still it is incompetence of police and other relevant agencies.collecting dead and injured and informing that so and so organisation has taken responsibility does not relieve officials from there responsibility.unwanted statements of rulers and thier servants/media . the poor nations tax payers money is being wasted with lose of lives and insecurity in the society . it is a pure shame.
Very sad news. Gen. Raheel Shareef is out and the terrorists are in again; wake up call for our new COAS.
People would learn from their mistakes if they weren't so busy denying them.
Any form of 'Terror' is bad for any society, My heartfelt condolences. But the questions arises if there was an alert issued a week before why wasn't it stopped? People need to know the answers.
Very heart breaking :
Wake up ! Governament : Good terrorist or Bad terrorist :
No matter innocent people are victims !
@mohammed - Like you found out who killed Liaqat Ali and Benazir Bhuttto?
These people were demonstrating to be allowed to sell illegal drugs!
RIP.....stop talking about PSL, 13 people died and 85 injured and people are talking about a game. Both r different issues and should remain separate.
Now or never. If enemy not paid in same coin now then it will continue.
@Noman Ahmed So sad to loose innocent lives, RIP. This incident may serve as reminder that good work of fighting against terror groups in Pakistan started by great General Raheel need to be continued and finished. Most important job is to dissuade persons from ideology of hate, intolerance and attempts to force others to follow their view points. IS, Talibans and other terror groups use this bad ideologies which lead to terrorism and loss of innocent human lives. Respecting all religions and sects without compromising your own religion is the best attitude. All terror groups without distinction need to be defeated both militarily and ideologically.
This is extremely unfortunate. May this motivate the Pakistani government to act on terrorists of all kinds. Killing innocents will achieve nothing. May all the victims RIP. May god give their families the strength to cope with their loss.
We cannot solve any problem unless we root out corruption , everything will become easy then.
RIP AND condolences for their families.
@Nomi Goraya -- You seem to have a beautiful mind!
@Sensible neighbor , Thank you for showing the solidarity with the families of the dead and injured. Well meaning neighbors are always welcome.
@Nomi Goraya how bitter you sound
@mohammed that is the problem with you guys, you never understood who your real enemy is and only have an imaginary enemy in your minds which has been planted. When you realize the truth it will be too late, its already late i suppose
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif condemned the attack and reiterated Pakistan is in decisive fight against terrorism while praising the sacrifices of the slain security personnel.
We all know who is behind it. They want to stop PSL final in Lahore. No, you cannot break Lahore's will.
By going through comments coming in , it appears this is like a ANOTHER-DAY. I feel Sorry and pray.
@raffay Wow, you say "We all know who is responsible" for this bombing! Why have you neglected to tell us WHO? BTW TTP has already loudly claimed responsibility, so let's hear your conspiracy theory!
Very planned when PSL final was going to hold.
Instead of blaming each other, why can't we as good neighbors, friends and human beings find solutions to our problems together. Think over it, neither country is enemy to anyone....
@Nasir Stop blaming others for your own doings. The blast happening because of PSL is very lame. Full sympathy to the victims. Pakistan needs resolve to get rid of terrorism period.
Cleaning operation should be start from punjab . Leshker, jaish and other similar orgnisations headquarter and network located in the PUNJAB . So sad that innocent are murdered due to these organisations.
terrorism is a double edged weapon, sadly one realises when it is too late.
Very sad news but i am really shocked to read comments of below avg IQ people by dragging as if PSL final will make pakistan world power....prayers for departed :(
@indian123 ,"Wish this is never happen in Pakistan or India"why mention only 2countries,it should never happen any where.
I am waiting to see what Mr. Bajwa is going to do
I pray for the one's who lost their loved ones
@RajA You wont fight with corruption and senseless policies, which are the root cause.
@The end is near somebody talking sensibly
in spite of getting the alert report, still such massacre happens, it shows the non seriousness of the concerned authorities , and now as the incident happened in spite of blame game, the provincial shows some responsibility and help out the victims and also make necessary arrangements for future and learn lesson from such gaps.
Deepest condolences to the innocents who have suffered!
Our elders used to tell us about Lahore's happy life before partition. Now we are shocked to see all such terrorists acts in our elder's city. Please stop all this. Live Happily. GOD will punish them who has done this.
@Mustafa u should start beleiving it then that our enemies are so low to do this just to avoid international cricket back in country !
Political inaction is definitely responsible for this.
@Nomi Goraya. Sir I would certainly disagree with your comments as enemy is within us and continuously damaging us. But we again pointing toward others. Lets clean our home, we knew who they are??
why we so badly need to send the afghans back to their homeland
Prayers for innocent departed souls
@muktibahini, Bangladesh
Agree
@Masood ANY EVIDENCE?
A handful of Top players fees in IPL is more then the entire budget of PSL, its illogical to blame, as no league in the world can be compare with the innocent lives.
God save pakistan
PML-N's gift to Punjab on st. Valentine's day!
What an incompetent administration.
Final will be held in lahore, karachi, Islamabad or anywhere else but what is the point in that not to play in Lahore
Very Sad
When will this stop
R.I.P
Pained and sad at the loss of innocent lives. Let peace prevail in South Asia. Heartfelt condolences to the People of Pakistan. God bless.
A brother from India.
First find out who did it before starting blaming other countries.
What a Shame!! People here are more worried about PSL final than people who got killed.
I have in my earlier comment already expressed my sorrow and prayers. However one thing I can't refrain from mentioning is that somehow to the people of Pakistan PSL cricket seems to be more important than the lives lost or the cause or the basic fight and concern over terrorism. Everyone seems more or I should say 'most' concerned about PSL and cricket not being held in Lahore.
My suggestion if that is really the case then have the finals in Lahore with which ever players want to take part and let not the terrorists win.
Very sad to read innocent civilians and police officers getting killed. These officers were in fact trying to calm down the protesters and maintain law and order. Very sad indeed. This is nothing but madness. RIP.
Shameful act by terrorists .Terror prone places have to have good intelligence back up and foolproof security else this will keep on happening no matter where. No point in linking sports event to such a sad incidence it will act as shield to corrupt security officials.RIP victims
@Sandeep: No my friend we are equally worried about deaths & destruction of properties. Don't you see the timing of this attack, some country don't want peace & sports return to Pakistan. PSL final in Lahore is a challenge now, it should take place to defeat terror planning by our enemies.
It was the responsibility of the health ministers ( there are 2 - that is why no co-ordination ), to negotiate with the protesting drugs & Chemists Assosciation members, not the Police who lost their senior members, shame on the govt of Punjab.
@An Indian ...Ask answer to your Modi led Government...
@Nomi Goraya Things will hardly change if you do not change. Still I can find some blame game holding either India or PSL responsible for it. A wrong mindset can't bring peace. A country's future is decided by the thinking pattern of its society. RIP.
I express my deep sympathy and condolences with the families of the victims and wishes the injured speedy recovery
I miss General Raheel sharif. God bless you sir. Where is the Panama group now?
@Nomi Goraya
So if you know who is behind all this terror, why don't you catch them and bring them to justice?
Condolences
So sorry to read this story of dastardly and cowardly act. RIP
First of all my heartfelt condolences for the loss of 16 valuable lives and my deep sympathies with grieved families. Indeed, nothing can fill in the gaps in their lives caused due to unfortunate deaths of their loved ones (May their souls rest in peace, Amen). Also, I truly pray for the speedy recovery of the people, injured in this inhumane and brutal act and I strongly condemn it.
