KARACHI: Three die in road accidents

KARACHI, Dec 27: Three people died in road accidents in different areas of the city on Saturday.

An elderly man was hit by a motorcyclist, Saqib Arif, on M.A. Jinnah Road. The man died on the spot while Saqib was injured in the accident. Police arrested the motorcyclist and shifted the body to a hospital for postmortem. Later, the body was sent to Edhi morgue for identification. Police believed that the deceased was a drug addict.

In Darakhshan police limits, Shakoor Rasheed, 22, was sitting on a truck being driven by his brother-in-law Khairullah. As the truck negotiated a sharp turn at Khayaban-i-Mahafiz, Shakoor fell off the moving truck and died on the spot. Police detained Khairullah and impounded the truck.

Police said Gul Mohammad, 6, was crossing road in Bilal Colony, when a vehicle knocked him down. His body was taken to a nearby hospital for autopsy.

FIRE: A fire broke out in some huts in Mohammadi Colony within Jackson police limits. Several families were rendered homeless, however, no loss to life was reported.

Fire brigade and Edhi sources said that the fire erupted in a hut, which engulfed at least 25 other huts destroying them completely. The inhabitants were rendered in the cold weather. “The Edhi Foundation was trying to provide blankets, quilts, food and other relief goods to them,” said an Edhi spokesman.
