KARACHI: A young man was gunned down apparently in a sectarian attack in Gulistan-i-Jauhar here on Tuesday night, according to police and members of a religious party.

They said Mohammed Kazim Raza, 39, was riding a motorcycle when unidentified pillion riders opened fire on him from behind near Munawwar Chowrangi. He suffered critical bullet wounds and died on the spot.

“It appeared to be a targeted killing incident linked with sectarianism,” said Gulshan SP Dr Fahad Ahmed.

The victim worked at the Agha Juice shop in Gulistan-i-Jauhar, which had also come under attack in the past, said a spokesperson for the Majlis-i-Wahdatul Muslimeen.

The deceased originally hailed from Gilgit.
