OKARA: Eight students of a private college suffered burn injuries, while one of them was referred to Lahore in a critical condition during a bonfire on Saturday.

Girls from first- and second-year classes were enjoying a bonfire at the college on G.T. Road when clothes of some of them standing close caught fire. Those who suffered burn injuries were identified as Kainat, Jannat, Saadia, Amna, Kinza, Naila, Saman and Abida.

On receiving information, Rescue 1122 and police personnel rushed to the site. The rescue team shifted five students to DHQ hospital emergency ward from where Abida was referred to Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital with severe burns.

Kinza, Naila and Saman were sent home after being given first aid on campus, while the remaining students were stated to stable at the hospital.

Deputy Commissioner Sucrat Amman Rana rushed to the emergency ward to inquire after the burn victims and also directed inquiry into the incident.
