Sugar output rising

HYDERABAD, Jan 2: Sugar production in Sindh is gaining momentum as out of 30 sugar mills, 27 have become operational for sugar production.

Sources from the office of cane commissioner, Sindh, informed APP that till December 31, 2001, growers had provided 2,792,068.021 tons sugarcane to 27 sugar mills of the province.

The sugar production in these mills was recorded as 215,835.07 tons with recovery percentage of 8.307 kg per 100 kg of sugarcane.

Sources said sugarcane growers were getting payment of their production at an average of Rs48 per 40 kg as compared to the official rate of Rs43 per

40 kg for the ensuing season, adding at some parts of the province, the growers were getting Rs50 to 51 per 40 kg.—APP
