KARACHI, Jan 2: Five ships carrying iron scrap, chemicals, crude oil and containers are due to arrive at the outer anchorage on Thursday.

According to KPT sources berthing activity at the dry and oil piers was utilized by 61 and 100 per cent thanks to steady two-way activity as 13 vessels were berthed or sailed out.

Nine ships, Wan Hai-235, X-Press Dhaulagiri, MOL Sincerity, Bunga Masdua to unload and load containers, Pumma and Wing Song to unload and load general cargo, Koriana and Botany Triton to offload oil and chemicals and Usinsk to load molasses were berthed after the sailing of four.

The departing ships were led by Wan Hai-235, Bunga Masddua, Stolt Westeland, and NCC Hijaz, while Banglar Mamata, Botany Triton, Koriana and X-Press Dhaulagiri are due to sail out on Thursday.

Cargo handling activity at the wharves was relatively large owing to steady handling of liquid tonnage, rising to 93,651 tons comprising 23,951 tons of export tonnage, including 4,607 tons of rice and 11,468 tons of molasses and 69,700 tons of import cargo, which also included 10,838 tons of wheat for Afghanistan.

The following ships are due on Thursday: Ghazvin, with crude oil, Bow Marino, with chemicals, Leixoes and Al-Wajba, with containers and Macedonia Hellas, with 32,000 tons of iron scrap.
