Inam upsets Jalil

KARACHI, Dec 20: Unseeded Inam Gul caused an upset beating Jalil Khan in three sets in the quarterfinals of men’s singles of Salma Noorani Cup tennis championship on Saturday at Karachi Club.

Jalil won the first set easily 6-1 but faltered in the remaining two sets losing 4-6, 5-7 as Inam outplayed his more experienced rival in every facet of the game.

Top seed Aqeel Khan easily made his way to the semifinal with second seed Nomi Qamar. Aqeel outclassed Kamran Khalil in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.

Nomi also faced not much resistance from Wasif Cheema and trounced him in two straight sets 6-3, 6-3.

Men’s singles: Aqeel Khan bt Kamran Khalid 6-2, 6-3; Inam Gul bt Jalil Khan 1-6, 6-4, 7-5, Nomi Qamar bt Wasif Cheema 6-2, 6-3.
