FAISALABAD, Dec 20: University of Agriculture Vice-Chancellor Dr Riaz Hussain Qureshi has said the UAF is vying to bring social sciences on par with other disciplines like horticulture, agricultural entomology, botany, zoology and chemistry.

This he claimed while speaking at the concluding session of the national training workshop on ‘Statistical Package for Social Sciences’ held here on Saturday at the University of Agriculture.

The vice-chancellor said the science of statistic was the mother of all social sciences and Academy of Education Planning and Management (AEPAM), Islamabad, encouraged the UAF while organizing a very useful six-day workshop with the collaboration of our Mathematics and Statistic Department.

“We have many packages for the basic and applied sciences but we are unable to enhance the disciplines of social sciences in the university for lack of funds. All the same, we are trying our best to get packages for social sciences as well”, he said.

In other countries, he said, social scientists were consulted at the highest level of policy making but they were under-rated in Pakistan.

Mr Qureshi said that a social interaction played a pivotal role for the unity of various factions of society. He hoped that in the future the government agencies and NGOs would select the UAF for organizing their seminars and workshops.

Earlier, Faculty of Sciences Dean Dr Rukhshanda Nawaz said that with the training imparted to the participants from all over the country in this workshop, they had made a mark to enable researchers to perform comprehensive statistical treatment of collected data.
