Mukarram Ali dies

LONDON, Dec 20: International Institute of Islamic Banking and Insurance president Group Captain Syed Mukarram Ali (retired), died here on Friday at the age of 78.

He was younger brother of Syed Muazzam Ali, founder chairman of the Pakistan Press International (PPI) news agency. Late Mukarram Ali, who leaves behind a widow, three daughters and a son, will be buried in Wimbledon graveyard in London on Sunday.

He served Pakistan Air Force in various capacities including principal of the Aeronautical College, Korangi Creek Karachi. After premature retirement from the PAF, he joined the British Aerospace as chief engineer at the guided weapons division in London.

He was one of the three vice chancellors of King Abdul Aziz University in Saudi Arabia in its initial years.

He also served the United Nations as consultant with the status of ambassador for West Africa.—PPI
