LAHORE: Boy shot dead

LAHORE, Dec 20: A boy was shot dead in an attack meant for her mother who escaped unhurt in Shafiqabad on Saturday.

The police said Mst Aasia of Bhati Gate had allegedly been abducted by neighbour Ramzan and his accomplices some months ago. She was set free but a kidnapping case was registered against the accused.

The woman said Kashif, a friend of the accused, had been pressing her to withdraw the case, but she would always refuse.

She alleged that Kashif together with his two accomplices, unidentified so far, opened fire on her when she was returning to her house after visiting a relative. She said her son Chand (11) suffered serious injuries and the attackers escaped. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he died. The body was sent to the city mortuary for autopsy.

A case has been registered with no arrest.

BURNT: A youth allegedly attempted to kill himself on failure in an affair in Wahdat Colony here on Saturday.

The police said Ramzan (28) wanted to marry a neighbour. He sent a proposal which was turned down, they said and added that the youth sprinkled kerosene and put himself on fire. He suffered critical burn wounds and was admitted to the Mayo Hospital where his condition was stated to be critical.
