Under the next phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, Karachi-Peshawar railway tracks will be made signal-free and gate-free, Radio Pakistan reported Sunday.
Work on the project will be initiated in January and the first phase will focus on the Rawalpindi-Peshawar tracks.
A fence similar to those at the motorway will be built around the tracks, and an underpass or overhead bridge will be built at every gate on the tracks, official sources claim.
Sources said authorities have completed planning on the project.
Pakistan Railways is also preparing a feasibility report for linking of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) with Peshawar and Torkham by rail.
Pakistan Railways is also devising a strategy for an alternative route of the Chaman-Spin Boldak rail to approach Afghanistan and Central Asia via Torkham, with a focus on trade volume.

Our railways are the most cost effective mass transportation system in the country which has been neglected for decadrs.
The country,s railway system has not been upgradedod for more than a century because we have focused on building highways.Our existing system is outdated and obsolete and needs much needed upgrade. We should divert or resources on upgrading the existing tracks and their communication/ signal system. Our existing railway system was built by the British to transport the raw material/ cotton to England.Anothet track should be added where there is a single track which will cut down the accidents and the travel time.Our Railway compartments and raulway ststions are not upto par with international standards. By modernizing the railway system we will also cut down our dependence on foreign oil.

The most underexplored benefits from CPEC will be from rail. Pakistan Railways is already improving. Now with higher speeds, reliability, and efficiency on the ML-1 line, you will see its cargo traffic increase, bringing inland bulk shipping costs down and ensuring that passenger rail service will remain affordable. Hope mass transit projects in major cities will connect to railways.

I am delighted by the news as my late father had worked in the railways section Rawalpindi to Peshawar and I have many memories associated with this section. Taxila, Wah cement factory, Panja Sahib also called Hasanabdal, Attak, Indus River bridge, Khairabad Kund where I went to school for the first time, Nowshera, and then Peshawar. I made many visits to Peshawar to buy dry fruits as it was sold there in PAKE WATE which was higher than the ser which was only 16 Chhataks.

That is good news. Also along with making it signal free, please use International Standard Gauge for the Railway Tracks, while you are making so much investment, it will be useless to have spent Billions on Narrow Gauge Tracks when Train in China, Central Asia, etc. use Wide Gauge tracks. Only, Pakistan, India use those discarded 18th-19th century British Narrow Gauge for train tracks left behind by the British.
