JHANG, Dec 18: Villagers blocked the Jhang-Faisalabad Road in protest against drug trafficking here on Thursday.

Some 17km from here, Chak 216 was once known as ‘Sohrab Goth’ of Jhang because locally-made liquor and heroin were supplied to all parts of the district and adjoining districts of Faisalabad and Toba Tek Singh. Some three years ago, this business came to a halt due to the joint efforts of police and the notables.

But during the last few months, this business again started in the village. The union council Nazim and other notables informed the police, but to no avail.

On Wednesday, two addicts died in the village which forced the residents to come on the road. And on Thursday, the villagers led by UC Nazim Allah Ditta blocked traffic on the Jhang-Faisalabad Road.

INJURED: An armyman was injured by dacoits in Kot Akbar Shah, some 22km from here, on Wednesday night.

Four masked men entered the house of Subedar Zawar Husain and locked the inmates in a room. When Zawar put up resistance, the bandits opened fire on him.

He sustained serious injuries and was taken to the DHQ Hospital from where he was shifted to the Combined Military Hospital, Lahore.
