KARACHI, Jan 1: The teachers’ body at the University of Karachi on Tuesday expressed its resentments over certain administrative actions and demanded of the authorities to rectify the situation.

A spokesman for the Karachi University Teachers’ Society said a meeting of the executive council was held, with its president, Dr Fahimuddin, in the chair to consider the alleged indifferent attitude of varsity administration towards the teachers.

The meeting demanded the university to reinstate Prof Ghulam Hussain on the post of chairman, Department of Computer Science, immediately and withdraw him from the Statistic department.

The body also took notice of some letters sent recently to three KU teachers, who are members of the Syndicate, in reply to their observations on minutes of a KU syndicate meeting.

The teachers had pointed out to the administration that minutes had not been recorded correctly and as such changes were due, added the spokesman, saying that the administration seemed to be unhappy over the act of the teachers.

In reply to their observations, the administration wrote harsh letters to the teachers, which was discussed during the KUTS meeting and it was demanded that the university should withdraw the letters.

When contacted, the registrar of the university, Prof S. Aqil Burney, said the minutes of the meeting were recorded correctly and had also been approved by the vice chancellor.

He said the letter written to teachers was not harsh in language and that too was issued to them with the approval of the vice chancellor.
