PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak on Thursday said the extension of the province’s current system of governance to Fata belt was the best solution to the development of tribal areas as local dwellers were familiar with the system.

“We can’t afford any new experience,” he told a delegation of Unhcr headed by Neil Buhne, Humanitarian Coordinator, United Nation Resident Coordinator here on Thursday, according to an official statement.

Talking to the delegation, Mr. Khattak said unregistered refugees were real problems for the province and that was why they had been demanding the registration of all Afghan nationals.

He said no country of the world could allow unregistered foreigners to stay on its territory.

“Our government has constituted high level committees to deal with the issue of Afghan refugees,” he said.

The CM said unregistered Afghan refugees arrested by the police were produced before the committee and were freed after guarantee and that NoC for travel in the province was also provided within two days.

He asked the UN and other international agencies to focus on education and training of Afghan refugees saying the government wants to make them useful citizens to serve their country in a proper manner.

The CM said the provincial government would wish to discuss issues of mutual interest with UN agencies so that the joint efforts of it and UN agencies could prove fruitful for the welfare of the humanity.

The delegation appreciated efforts of the provincial government for improvement of law and order, good governance in the province.

It also lauded the government’s reforms in education, health and policing sectors and promised further assistance.
