Eight die in bus-trailer collision

NAWABSHAH, Dec 10: Eight persons were killed and 26 injured after an overcrowded bus collided head-on with a trailer on the National Highway, near Qazi Ahmed, on Wednesday.

The Karachi-bound bus (CH-1940) coming from Khanpur Katora, Punjab, collided with the trailer (GT-1339) coming from the opposite direction as a result of which seven persons died on the spot and 27 were injured.

Those killed were identified as bus driver Saifullah; cleaner Rajab Ali, 30; Hafiz Zafar, 23, son of Karamuddin; Mohammad Jalal, 30, son of Allah Bukhsh; Aqsa, 8, and Savera, 7, both daughters of Malik Altaf, residents of Ahmedpur Sharqia; and Zulaikha, 9, daughter of Allah Ditta, resident of Ferozpur, Rahim Yar Khan.

The injured included Zubaida, 40, Mohammad Idrees, 30, Atiqur Rehman, 29, Mohammad Karim, 27, Mohammad Khalil, Mohammad Shabbir, Mohammad Yaqoob, 30, Abdul Hayee, 20, Mohammad Bilal, 20, Mohammad Sajjad, 25, Akhtar Hussain, 32, Mohammad Ishaq, 30, Karamullah, 20, Basheer Ahmed, 15, Khaliq, 12, Islam, 60, Nazir Ahmed, 30, Arif, 15, Allah Bukhsh, 40, Mohammad Bakhsh, 35, Zafar Mohammad, 20, Kashif, 20, Shabana, 32, Yousuf, Shazia, Wazir and Waheed.

They were rushed to the People’s Medical College Hospital where Zubaida died of her injuries.
