World Habitat Day

World Habitat Day is observed each year worldwide on October 7, to work for adequate shelter around the world through different activities.

It is estimated that 1.6 billion people are living in standard houses, but around 100 million people are homeless. This day has many aims, including pay attention towards the needs of homeless people, to provide adequate housing everywhere, to bring beneficial things for them and increase awareness worldwide to take up joint responsibility for future generation’s habitat.

First it was discussed in 1985, then celebrated in the year 1986. Today several countries, including Pakistan, the USA, UAE, German, Japan, Italy and others, celebrate this day to ensure sufficient shelter, water, sanitation, good education, health, job prospect and other basic facilities of the people.

Cook-it-yourself

This is with reference to the “Cook it yourself” recipe “Egg-n-bread in a bowl” by Aamnah Arshad (YW, September 10). I enjoyed making the delicious and tasty breakfast dish because it is made within three minutes. I didn’t know much about cooking but this simple and easy recipe has made me a chef in my home. I am thankful to the writer for giving us such a yummy treat. And I request the YW team and its writers to provide us with more interesting articles like this one.

Things Muslims introduced to the world

This is regarding the cover article “Things Muslims introduced to the world” by Javaid Hyder (YW, September 3).

It was a superb article and quite unbelievable that many important things like, pen, coffee, surgical instruments, quilts, bank cheques, etc., were all introduced by Muslims and it’s a shame that people hardly know about it. YW should give space to more articles like this.

Mistakes make us stronger

This is with reference to the story “Mistakes make us stronger” by Muhammad Omar Iftikhar (YW, July 23).

It was an informative article and everyone should read it, especially those who fear making mistakes. A mistake done is not a mistake, but repeating it is a mistake. One should keep in mind that by making mistakes, you learn new things. A good person always accepts his/her faults and learns from it. Making a mistake increases our experience and being experienced decreases our possibility of making that mistake again.
