Truck driver denied bail

Published December 9, 2003

PESHAWAR, Dec 8: A single bench of the Peshawar High Court on Monday dismissed the bail petition of a trucker accused of killing a traffic policeman in an accident.

The bench comprising Justice Malik Hamid Saeed observed that the accused was not entitled to bail as a life was lost due to his act.

The deceased, Mukkaram Ali, was performing his duty on the Mall Road in Nowshera on Aug 10 when the speeding truck (IDC-1293) hit him. He received severe injuries and died later.

Advocate Astaghfirullah Khan appeared for the family of the deceased and argued that it was an intentional murder. He contended that the entry of heavy traffic on the Mall Road was banned to avoid accidents.
