QUETTA: Three mortar shells were fired into Pakistani territory by Iran's border guards in the early hours of Wednesday.

"Mortar shells fired by Iranian border guards landed in the district of Panjgoor," a provincial government official told DawnNews on the condition of anonymity.

The official added that two of the shells landed near Frontier Corps check post, with the third landing at Killi Karim Dad.

No property or human loss was reported in the shelling.

Locals panicked as a result of the attack, and Frontier Corps personnel reached the site to initiate investigations.

Security forces tightened security at the border after the incident.

Pakistan's territorial integrity has been previously violated in mortar attacks targeting the border areas.

Pakistan shares a 900 kilometre long porous border with Iran and the two countries had in 2014 decided to boost intelligence coordination to wipe out terrorists from the border region.
