KARACHI, Dec 8: The National Accountability Bureau, Sindh, has arrested accused Capt (retd) Haroon Khan, Akhtar Hussain Askari and Khawaja Qadeer Ahmed on the “charges of misuse of official positions, thereby causing a loss to the government exchequer” under the National Accountability Ordinance 1999, says a press release.
The press release adds that accused Capt (retd) Haroon Khan, former director (P&S), Pakistan Steel Mills, in collusion with accused Akhtar Hussain Askari, the then DGM PS, abused his official position and purchased “ferro magneze” in excessive quantity at “exorbitant rates” from accused Khawaja Qadeer Ahmed, thereby causing a loss to the government exchequer to the tune of Rs157.6 million.
NAB, Sindh, has also arrested 13 accused persons on the charges of “corruption, misuse of authority and embezzlement of government funds” during construction of “Shadi Shaheed Project” of Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur.
