KARACHI, Dec 7: A fire broke out in the basement of a multi-storey building at Zaibunnisa Street Saddar on Sunday.

Spokesman for the fire department, said that fire broke out in the basement of Gul Centre at Zaibunnisa Street. He said the basement was filled with smoke, making it impossible for firemen to go down into it.

However, no major loss of property was reported as the basement was full of garbage dumped by the shops there.

Chief fire officer, Kazim Ali, told Dawn that the builders had even sold away the ramp leading into the basement and a shop had been constructed in its place. The shop had to be razed to enter the basement, he added.

He said that in the basement, instead of parking, some shops were constructed. Ten fire tenders worked for several hours to put out the fire.
