SANGHAR, Dec 31: A man, Shahnawaz, suffering from Hepatitis-C was taken to the Jhol police station where he was kept in the open and died due to severe cold on Monday.
The Jhol police picked up Shahnawaz and another man, Zahid Hussain Jalalani, from Sadooni village on Saturday and took them to the police station on a complaint lodged against them by one Pathan Khan Jalalani regarding a dispute over agricultural land.
Since Shahnawaz was suffering from Hepatitis-C, his relatives requested the police to keep him in a lock-up.
However, the police did not oblige and kept him out in the open.
His relatives informed the district Nazim, Roshan Junejo, and ex-MPA, Ali Ghulam Nizamani, about it.
Both of them intervened on Mr Shahnawaz’s behalf as a result of which police released him on Sunday. However, his condition had deteriorated by then.
His relatives immediately took him to the civil hospital where he died.
An official of the Jhol police, Taj Mohammed, on being contacted over the telephone claimed that Mr Shahnawaz had been taken to the police station but had been released only after two hours.
COUNCIL MEMBERS REMAIN DIVIDED: The district council members remained divided over a resolution which was moved in the house on the last day of the session in favour of PPP leader Ms Benazir Bhutto.
Shahid Thahim, the Nazim, union council Manak Thahim, moved a resolution demanding withdrawal of cases against Ms Benazir Bhutto and bringing her safely back to the country.
Chaudhry Asim Nazim, union council Shah Sikandarabad, objected to it and alleged that these leaders had committed crimes and looted the country and went into self-exile.
He further said Ms Benazir Bhutto had talked against the country while in India.
On hearing this, members from both the sides started arguing.
