Hackathon

(Noun, informal)

Definition: An event, typically lasting several days, in which a large number of people meet to engage in collaborative computer programming.

Example: “A series of 48-hour hackathons to build new web and mobile services.”

“A hackathon went on throughout, with teams of developers working through the night to produce apps based on ideas submitted by the public.”

“In Washington, the day before the conference, we’re having a big open source hackathon.”
