PESHAWAR, Dec 31: Peshawar City District Council on Monday asked the provincial government to enhance the perks and privileges being given to the District Nazim, Naib Nazims, and members of district, town and union councils.
Through a unanimously-adopted resolution the district council endorsed the report of the committee constituted to put forward recommendations regarding salaries and other privileges for Nazims, Naib Nazims and other members.
The committee, headed by Hasan Gillani, recommended to pay Rs16,000 to District Nazim, Rs14,000 to Naib Nazim, Rs9,000 to town Nazims, Rs,7000 to union council Nazim, Rs4,000 to Naib Nazim, Rs5000 to district member, Rs2,500 to town councillor, and Rs1,000 to union councillor, per month.
He said that the committee also proposed that District Nazim and Naib Nazim be provided cars and unlimited use of petrol and telephone calls.
Earlier, the district council demanded of the district government to ban gambling and games of chance at fun fairs.
The district council called upon the government to take action against officials who were patronizing anti-social elements, and provide healthy entertainment facilities to the public.
The city district council resumed proceedings here at Archives Hall on Monday. The meeting was presided over by Dr Mohammad Iqbal Khalil. The district council constituted a committee which would visit the fair at Shahi Bagh following complaints received from people.
The committee recommended that an FIR be registered against the organizers who were involved in such activities.
Reacting to the banning of funfairs, Shamim Qaiser advocate, councillor, said that instead of banning the fair the government should take steps against the culprits.
