MUZAFFARABAD, Dec 4: Azad Jammu and Kashmir Development Working Party here on Thursday approved development schemes worth Rs1468.235 million besides recommending 10 other projects to be sent to the Cabinet Development Committee for approval.

The meeting was chaired by additional chief secretary (development) Sardar Abdul Rashid Khan and the projects related to communications and works, education, sports, housing and physical planning, agriculture and animal husbandry, electricity, transport and trade and industry sectors.

The meeting approved provision of Rs59 million for purchase of land for Scouts Cadet College in Tandali village near Muzaffarabad and was told that the construction cost of the college would be borne by the federal government.

Besides, the federal government would also provide Rs30 million for the launch of electrical, civil and computer technology classes in the Polytechnical Institute, Rawalakot, whereas Rs14.745 million would be made available from the AJK Council funds for the promotion of olive seed cultivation in Azad Kashmir.

The meeting sanctioned Rs3.5 million for technical consultation of water supply project in Sensa (district Kotli), Rs15.466 million for water supply project in Thakyala (district Kotli) and Rs2.383 million for betterment of 5-km long stretch of road in Charhoi, also in district Kotli.

It further approved a Rs31.482 million scheme for repair and renovation of livestock dispensaries, Rs16.878 million scheme for construction of additional sheds in 21 food department godowns, Rs3.194 million scheme for the creation of awareness among the public regarding sericulture and Rs12.29 million scheme for silkworm breeding.

The meeting also sanctioned Rs201.8 million for purchase of land for prisons in three AJK districts, Rs37.113 million for establishment of workshops for repair of power transformers, Rs23.92 million for development of livestock research centre, Rs37.422 million for repair and construction of different roads in Dadyal (district Mirpur), Rs37.492 million for treatment of a landslide on Muzaffarabad-Kohala road, Rs26.772 million for improvement of roads in Upper Chattar Housing Scheme Muzaffarabad and Rs52.364 for construction and improvement of roads in district Bagh. It also sanctioned Rs43.661 million for cultivation of vegetables in Azad Kashmir.
