Provincial Games now from Dec 19

KARACHI, Dec 1: The three-day inaugural Inter-provincial Games scheduled to be held at Lahore from Dec 5 will now be held from Dec 19, secretary, Sindh Olympic Association (SOA) Ahmad Ali said on Monday.

Pakistan Olympic Association had to change the dates keeping in view the Raiwind Ijtima, which happened to coincide with the schedule of the games.

Athletics, baseball, boxing, cycling, football, gymnastics, karate, swimming, squash, volleyball, wrestling and weightlifting events will be held during the games.

Except for baseball Sindh athletes will feature in all the other disciplines.

He said various sports associations of Sindh have been advised to select their squad by Dec 10 and submit it with SOA.

The SOA secretary said 170 contingent including 30 officials will be taking part in the games.

Sindh Sports Minister Muhammad Naeem Ishtique has accepted to be the Chef-de-Mission of Sindh contingent. The Minister has sanctioned an amount of Rs 100,000 on behalf of Sindh Government for the contingent.

Break-up for various games athletics (28+3), boxing (10+2), cycling (6+2), gymnastics (8+2), karate (12+2), swimming (8+2), volleyball (12+3), wrestling (7+3), weightlifting (8+2) football (16-+3), wushu (14+2).

Ahmad said some of the associations will be holding short training camps after selecting their teams.

He said Punjab Olympic Association will be providing accommodation, daily allowance of Rs125 each for five days and conveyance Rs25 each per day per head.—APP
