HYDERABAD, Dec 1: District Nazim Dr Makhdoom Rafik Zaman, City Nazim Haji Moinuddin Shaikh, Latifabad Taluka Nazim Abdul Jabbar and heads of various NGOs staged a walk from the Nazim’s secretariat to the Hyderabad Press Club to mark the World Aids Day.
The walk was organized by the Green Star Social Marketing Pakistan and District Task Force for HIV/AIDS in which employees of different government departments and local councils as well as activists of various NGOs and school children participated.
Addressing the rally, the district Nazim said that AIDS which had gripped the entire world could only be checked through preventive measures as it was incurable.
He also stressed on the need for creating awareness among the people against the disease by organizing walks, seminars and street theatres and added that the Indus Valley Theatre Group had staged a street theatre in this regard.
In the end, Dr Shams Siddiqui of Green Star thanked the participants of the walk.
SUKKUR: A large number of people, including district officers, policemen, workers of social and religious organizations, teachers and students, held a walk here on Monday to mark the World AIDS Day.
Speaking on the occasion, District Nazim Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said the district government in collaboration with the Sukkur Blood and Drugs Donating Society and other such organizations was making efforts to apprise the people of AIDS and to provide screened blood to patients.
He said political, social and religious organizations should join hands to fight against the disease.
He assured the Sukkur Blood and Drugs Donating Society of the district government’s cooperation and said every possible step would be taken to widen the scope of services of the society.
The EDO, health, Dr Mohammad Ashfaq Piracha, Sukkur civil surgeon Dr Khalid Shaikh, DO, social welfare, Mohammad Yaseen, and others also spoke on the occasion.
LARKANA: To observe international AIDS day, a walk was jointly organized here on Monday by the Chandka Medical College Hospital and Mehran Welfare Trust.
The walk, led by CMCH medical superintendent Dr Syed Mehboob Shah, began from the hospital and terminated at the district council hall after taking a round of the city.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Gul Buledi, Faiz Mohammed Bhangar, Panjal Sangi and
others said that more than 40 million people are inflicted with the deadly disease in the world.
They said that according to latest estimates, there were 1,500 known cases of AIDS in Sindh and 60 in Larkana district.
