LAHORE, Oct 12: An enterprising, unbeaten knock of 106 by Test batsman Faisal Iqbal in PIA’s second innings was salient feature of the Patron’s Trophy Cricket Tournament Grade I match  against Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) which petered into a tame draw at the LCCA ground Friday.

PIA’s skipper Moin Khan declared the second innings at 293 for five. Seeing no possibility of a result, the KRL side did not play the second innings and the two umpires Athar Zaidi and Waqar Mughal abandoned the match as a draw.

Resuming the first innings at 466 for nine, Shoaib Akhtar and Jaffar Nazir took the total to 487. PIA had scored 383 in the first innings and KRL took a lead of 104 runs.

Jaffar was caught by Faisal off Fazle Akbar and that ended the KRL’s last wicket partnership of 85 runs. Both stayed together at the crease for 59 minutes. Shoaib remained not out at 59. He hit five boundaries, occupying the crease for 149 minutes.

During PIA’s second innings, Faisal was involved in all the three productive partnerships. Faisal and Sohail Jaffar (49 in 200 minutes with 5 fours) added 66 runs for the third wicket stand in 89 minutes. Thereafter, Faisal found a good partner in Yousuf Youhana (42 in 50 minutes with 8 boundaries) as both added 58 in 50 minutes. Faisal and skipper Moin Khan (35 in 59 minutes with 4 fours) put on 85 for the unbroken sixth wicket stand in just 59 minutes.

Faisal hit two huge sixes and 11 elegant boundaries in the best knock of the last day.
