MIRPURKHAS: Peasants seek crop share

MIRPURKHAS, Nov 30: Liberated peasants and activists of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan held a demonstration outside the press club here on Friday, demanding their share of crops from a landlord of the Pithoro taluka.

Talking to journalists, peasants Balo, Jalo and Arib and HRCP activists Sarwan Kumar, Bhagwandas and Kanji Bheel said landlord Suleman Bhatti had withheld their share of crops.

Fifteen members of a peasant family were freed from the detention of the landlord when the SHO of the Shadi Palli police station conducted a raid on the direction of the DPO.

The released peasants said they were tortured during their confinement by the landlord.

PAGARA’S BIRTHDAY: The birthday of Pir Pagara was celebrated by the Pakistan Muslim League-F at its office here on Sunday.

Mirpurkhas city PML-F president Malik Allaudin Pehalwan, councillors Bashir Ahmad, Saeed Ahmad Hashmi and Mohammad Ramzan Khan, Councillors’ Ittehad chairman Yamin Ghori and others attended the function.

SHOPKEEPER INJURED: A shopkeeper suffered bullet injuries when he offered resistance to robbers in the Satellite town here on Saturday.

The two robbers barged into the shop of Mohammad Waseem and when he offered resistance, one of them opened fire on him.

The injured was taken to the civil hospital.

The robbers later escaped.

Panic prevailed in the area after the incident.

ROBBERY: A petrol pump was robbed by two unidentified armed men on Friday night.

Two unknown motorcyclists came to a petrol pump near Jarwari Shakh and robbed Rs35,000 cash from the manager at gunpoint and escaped.

However, no case was registered till the filing of this report.

LOOTED: Some unidentified motorcyclists looted thousands of rupees from a shopkeeper and customers at a confectionery shop at Mirwah road on Friday night and escaped.

SHORTAGE: Shortage of onions and tomatoes was reported in Mirpurkhas district as the two commodities were being sold at high rates.

The two crops received a setback due to pest attack and local markets were depending on supply from other provinces.

However, during the Eid holidays, shortage was witnessed.

NFC AWARD: People’s Party Parliamentarian MNA Syed Qurban Ali Shah, has said that instead of population, revenue should be made the basis of the National Finance Commission award.

Talking to journalists here the other day, he said that due to unjust distribution of resources, Sindh was lagging behind in development which had created a sense of deprivation among the people of the province.

He emphasized that the sense of deprivation could only be alleviated by giving the people their due rights in all spheres of life, including economic and political.
