KARACHI, Dec 30: Feasible, a nine-year-old bay horse completed a splendid hat trick for beaming owner Hamayun Mirza, sprinting to victory in the concluding race of the Winter Gymkhana Meeting held on Sunday afternoon at the Karachi Race Course.

With two winners already under her belt under riding boy M. Amjad, Feasible was fancied by many racing fans when Amjad was seen once again in the saddle.

When the race began Miss World took the lead followed by Feasible and stable companion Bella. As heads turned for home, Feasible took over the running and never looking back went on to win the six furlong sprint in a smart time of one minute 18 1/5 seconds, leaving Bella five lengths in her wake. Mr. Bond rushing in from the outside, just pipped Miss World at the winning post.

Shining Rock with M. Faiz in the saddle, won the opener in a start to finish bid, holding off the belated challenge of Royal Springs by half a length.

Night Hero chasing the winner for most part of the race was second, while Darbari Malang completed the frame.

Trainer Mohammad Rafiq had a winner after ages, when his charge Majestic Prince with Khalid Jan aboard, won the following race from Baa Wafa and the favourite Noor-un-Nisa. Tanveer-e-Sehar made a late dash but had to be satisfied with the fourth spot.

Edward Chou’s bay four-year-old filly Guarantee piloted by M. Mazhar, never gave the connections any jitters, sprinting to a fluent victory in the third event. Striker ridden by Ashiq Ali, recovered to finish second, after the bay gelding was bumped by two runners and fell back into the sixth slot nearing the bend. Hogan although taking the early lead was third and Simple Prayer completed the frame.

Sachin, a big nine-year-old owned by Rahat Sultan and looking rather on the fatter side, provided the biggest upset in the afternoon’s events, by romping to victory in the next event.

Son Of None with riding boy Riaz Mohammad with the reins, finished a good second, while the crowd fancy Smiling Senorita won a photo-finish verdict over Science Fiction to grab the third place.

In this race, Shahdad Star, a good second only last week, never even figures on the board, trailing in the far distance. But the rider A. Rauf didnot escape the Stewards’ wrath and was fined Rs.10,000 for his misadvanture in the saddle.

The thoroughbred chestnut mare Tomahawk, partnered by riding boy Zahoor Ahmed and cheered on lustily by the huge gathering, picked up the spoils in the fifth race of the afternoon, beating the favourite Queen Of Hearts by one length. Further down the line Touch Of Joy finished ahead of Winning Queue.

The next race meeting is scheduled for Sunday, Jan 2002, with the Quaid-i-Azam Gold Cup being the main event. Also on the card is the 2000 Guineas of Pakistan and Nursery Cup.
