KHAIRPUR, Nov 28: The Sindh government is creating harassment among Nazims and using non-political methods to overthrow People’s Party Parliamentarians-backed Awam Dost Panel district governments.

This was said by Sindh PPP president Nisar Ahmad Khuhro while speaking at a press conference at the Jilani House here on Friday.

Mr Khuhro said the Khairpur district was included in the list where ADP Nazims were being harassed. He said a Sindh minister was trying to deprive the district Nazim of his powers. He said the Nazim was being threatened with tabling a no-confidence motion against him and development funds of the district were being withheld.

He ruled out the possibility of further defections from the PPP to the patriot group and maintained that the members who had joined the PPP (patriot) would not be restored to the same position if they again joined the party.

About construction of the greater Thal canal, the PPP leader regretted that work on the project was continuing despite the Sindh Assembly had unanimously passed resolutions against it.

He said the government had raised the Kalabagh dam issue to divert attention of the people from the Thal canal construction.

He criticized the Sindh government for its failure to plead the Sindh case.

The leader of the opposition in the Sindh Assembly said understanding among the provinces had weakened during the one-year rule of the government and, he claimed, the fact had been admitted at official level.

He hailed opposition leaders for convening a joint meeting in Lahore to create mutual understanding among the provinces.

Replying to a question, PPP leaders Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Manzoor Hussain Wassan dispelled the impression that there were differences in the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy leadership and said it would carry on its struggle.

They said there was no need to launch a movement for return of PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto as the people could be gathered at a short notice.
