ISLAMABAD, Oct 12: Balochistan Governor Amirul Mulk Mengal has rejected reports about the presence of pro-Taliban elements in the provincial police force.
“There is no pro-Taliban group in the police”, he said, but confirmed that some incidents of “minor insubordination” had occurred.
The governor, while talking about the eruption of riots and violence in the province, which become a front-line area due to US attacks on Afghanistan, said when there was such a complicated situation in the area, tensions spread and casualties might also take place.
He said, “I believe that now we have better control over the situation.”
At present, there is a very large number of Afghan refugees in Balochistan.
Mr Mengal said that a senior police official had been removed from his service, but added that the official had been removed because of insubordination and not because of the reason that he was a pro-Taliban officer.—NNI
