ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain has said that positive economic indicators are proof that Pakistan is on the path to progress and prosperity and it would soon become an important country of the region with the completion of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

He was addressing the 4th Achievement Award ceremony of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) at Aiwan-i-Sadr on Wednesday.

The President said the government was working on major infrastructure development and energy projects under the CPEC and the national economy was improving at a rapid pace, adding that all economic indicators in the country had improved over the last three years – a fact that had been acknowledged by several international organisations.

He urged industrialists and exporters to explore new markets, besides expanding into the conventional markets of Africa, Central Asia, Far East and Middle East.

He specifically mentioned the Central Asian markets, where he said there was a lot of potential for Pakistani business to grow.

FPCCI president Abdul Rauf Alam appreciated President Mamnoon’s commitment towards the business community.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan SM Munir lauded the steps taken by the government to bring about economic stability – particularly the measures taken to control the law and order situation.

The President handed over awards, certificates and shields to 73 participants for outstanding performance in boosting trade and strengthening the national economy.

The event was attended by Punjab Governor Rafiq Rajwana, federal ministers, parliamentarians, ambassadors and members of the business community.
