KARACHI: Jamaat-i-Islami chief Sirajul Haq has said that his party’s drive to eliminate corruption from society is not aimed to derail the democracy in the country but to highlight the root causes of our problems.

The JI chief, who launched a signature campaign to eliminate corruption from society by signing the memo at a camp set up by the JI’s youth wing here in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Saturday, said that corruption had become gangrene for the society. Individuals from the ruling class to the grassroots level of the society had indulged in corrupt practices, he added.

Mr Haq said due to this curse a large number of Pakistani children were out of schools and masses were deprived of basic health facilities. If corruption is eliminated the country can get rid of its foreign loans and its destiny can be changed.

He said the Panama leaks had exposed the corrupt political elite of Pakistan. He said the JI had proposed 13 points for the ToRs (terms of reference) for the proposed judicial commission to investigate the Panama leaks.

Mr Haq vowed to continue his party’s anti-corruption drive till the elimination of the menace of corruption from the society.
