KARACHI, Nov 15: Police allegedly shot at and wounded a man after he refused to give ‘bhatta’ to the police at his oil factory in Mochko police limits on Saturday.

The sources close to Gulshan Akbar, owner of Iqra oil factory and his son Shahryar said that head constable Imdad Hussain and constable Sadaqat Hussain went to the factory and demanded forced donation. Mr Gulshan refused to give the donation on which they beat Gulshan and his son Shahryar.

Mr Gulshan’s relatives Mohammad Ramzan and Mohammad Asif came to rescue him, but, the policemen also beat them. One of the policemen called reinforcement and the SHO with his colleagues reached the spot, the sources said.

They said that one of the policemen fired at Gulshan. As a result, he suffered a bullet wound in his chest. Later, Gulshan was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where his condition is stated to be serious.

However, the police denied allegations and said that the police raided the factory after getting information that the factory owner had been producing adulterated ghee. The police tried to arrest Gulshan, but, he and his son Shahryar resisted.

Duty officer at Mochko police station Hameedullah said that Gulshan and his son stabbed and injured head constable Imdad and locked constable Sadaqat in a room. The SHO was informed about the situation who reached the spot, but, he was also abused by the owner and his associates. He said that Gulshan and Shahryar also fired at the police.

The duty officer said that Gulshan shot himself to commit suicide. “We have arrested Mohammad Ramzan and Mohammad Asif for attacking police,” he added.
