LAHORE, Nov 14: Additional District and Sessions Judge Sajid Mehmood Chatha on Friday directed the Shafiqabad SHO to register a case against four doctors of a private hospital on charges of negligence in providing postnatal care, which was said to have caused the death of a neonate.
The court observed that the discharge slip of Mayo Hospital showed that the respondents had neither managed the delivery properly nor provided proper post-natal care at Adil Hospital.
The SHO’s report showed that the mother and the newborn child were shifted to Mayo Hospital in critical condition, which reflected either a lack of capability on the part of respondents or lack of proper medical facilities at the private hospital. The baby died soon after being shifted to the government hospital.
The petitioner, Raza Hashmi, claimed his wife had given birth to a child who died due to negligence of the doctors on duty, and his wife had to undergo severe physical and psychological trauma as a result.
He submitted he had approached the SHO for registration of a case against the accused, but the SHO refused to take action.—APP
