ISLAMABAD: Three police officials were booked on the charge of an attempted murder on Friday.

A police officer told Dawn that Usman Sadaqat was intercepted by the police near Bata Chowk at Chistianabad when he was bringing iron rods in a pickup.

Due to an unknown reason, a scuffle broke out between one of the police officials and Sadaqat.

During the scuffle, the constable fired bullets from his official weapon and injured Sadaqat in the leg.

According to Sadaqat, the constable signaled him at the picket to stop but as a truck was behind him he stopped a few meters away. At this, the constable used abusive language against him which led to the scuffle.

Later, Sadaqat along with his father and over two dozen villagers from Skaikhpur Hoon reached the Noon police station and demanded legal action against the officials.

The police first refused to entertain the complaint and told the villagers that an inquiry would be conducted into the allegation before the registration of the case.

But the villagers brought the matter into the knowledge of senior officers who ordered the registration of the case against the picket officials.

Sadaqat, with an injury to his left thigh, was later taken to hospital for medical assistance.
