LARKANA: The Basic Science Teachers Association (BSTA) of the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU) has categorically stated that it will challenge all decisions of the syndicate made in contravention of the university charter.

They took this stance while endorsing a decision of the Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) recently made at its convention in Karachi under the title of ‘Autonomous Universities’.

SMBBMU Vice Chancellor Prof Ghulam Asghar Channa summoned an urgent and agenda-less meeting of the syndicate on Feb 25, sources said on Tuesday.

In a press statement issued here on Tuesday, the BSTA said any decision lacking legal requirements would be opposed as the association would not afford to see flourishing favouritism in educational institutions.

BSTA joint secretary Dr Nadeem Balouch, who signed the statement, expected the syndicate not to endorse what he called illegal decisions made in violation of the orders of the Supreme Court. Recruitment, according to the statement, was made without advertising vacant seats, bypassing the selection board and even seats were filled during a ban on appointments.
