KARACHI, Nov 6: A suspected bandit was shot dead by Rangers in Shah Faisal Colony on Thursday.

The police said that two unknown armed bandits entered the house of one Jamshaid Khan in Shah Faisal Colony No.5. They held the inmates hostage at gunpoint and collected some jewellry.

As they were fleeing, the area people raised alarm and followed the suspects. The suspects, who were on a motorcycle, were given a chase by a patrolling vehicle of the Rangers 52 wing, ensuing an exchange of fire, the police said.

As a result of the firing, one of the suspects died while his accomplice managed to escape. The Rangers recovered a pistol, jewellry and a small amount of cash from the possession of the dead suspect who remained unidentified.

Later, his body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for the postmortem examination, the police said.

Following the autopsy examination, the body was sent to the Edhi morgue for identification.

INJURED: A councillor was injured when his rivals opened fire at him in Bashir Village in the limits of the Aziz Bhatti police station on Wednesday.

The injured councillor, Noor Bukash of the PPP, reported to the police that three sons of MNA Abu Bakar Shaikhani had a dispute with him over a plot of land in Bashir Village off the Rashid Minhas Road. On Wednesday, he said, they attacked and opened fire at him and fled.

The injured councillor was admitted to a private hospital. The victim is reported to have suffered multiple bullet injuries in both legs.

The police registered an FIR 246/2003 at the Aziz Bhatti police station.
