ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan said on Friday that the party’s intra-party elections would be completed before April 25.

Addressing a press conference, he said that PTI’s 20th anniversary would be celebrated on April 25 and “we are hoping that election process will be completed beforehand”.

The intra-party elections will be held at the tehsil, district, regional, provincial and central levels.

Mr Khan said that an interim set-up was already in place to hold the intra-party elections, adding that in light of the decision taken by the tribunal headed by retired Justice Wajihuddin, all organising bodies and positions had been dissolved.

He said that an election commission under the chairmanship of Tasneem Durrani had been set up to finalise modalities for the entire elections process.

According to Mr Khan, it was decided that workers could get themselves registered through mobile phones and their names would be included in the electoral list.

Admitting irregularities in the last intra-party election, the PTI chief said: “We have learnt our lessons from past mistakes and these will not be repeated in the upcoming election. “It is my commitment to hold the party elections. I have given my words to Justice Wajihuddin to hold fresh intra-party elections.”

He said that the membership campaign would continue for two months. He requested the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to extend assistance in this regard.

“We are following the Constitution by holding the intra-party election and it is the responsibility of the country’s institutions to assist us.”
