Two held for preparing fake licences

GUJRAT, Oct 12: The district traffic police on Friday claim to have arrested two outlaws involved in the preparation of fake computerized driving licences.

DSP Mehmoodul Hassan told newsmen that sub-inspector Ishaq had checked the documents of a motorcycle rickshaw which appeared to be faked. He sent the licence for verification to the computer branch which declared them as bogus. Later, A Division police arrested driver Waseem who disclosed that Babar Sajjad had prepared the licence. Police raided a place and also arrested Babar.

A case has been registered against both the accused.

SHOT DEAD: Four unidentified bandits shot dead a man on Thursday during a foiled dacoity bid in Hayyatpura, Kharian.

Armed dacoits in uniform burst into Asghar’s house, held up the inmates and started collecting valuables. They shot dead Asghar for putting up resistance and escaped without booty. The slain was said to be a retired armyman.

PANIC: Panic gripped the residents of Illahabad, Wazirabad, when the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) main gas supply pipe caught fire on Friday. The fire which erupted at 12.00 noon was put out by the area people. A resident, Zulfiqar Ali, told Dawn by telephone that some cracks had developed in the pipeline some 45 days ago, causing gas leakage from various spots. The area people had lodged a complaint with a local SNGPL office, but to no avail. Later, four consumers submitted another complaint to the Gujrat office, but no action was taken to plug the leakage.

ARRESTED: Police on Friday claimed they had arrested seven members of an inter-district gang with a huge quantity of arms, adds APP.

Addressing a news conference, SSP Dr Muhammad Riaz said the Kakarali police had arrested the criminals during a surprise raid at their hideout in the limits of Kakarali police station.

He said that outlaws were involved in many cases of highway robbery and over a dozen murder cases.

The SSP further claimed that proclaimed offender Mazhar alias Majoo was killed in an ‘encounter’ here on Thursday.

He said the PO was involved in 21 murder cases and several dacoity and robbery incidents.
