Do you turn up your nose at a vegetarian meal? Perhaps the experience of Bollywood actors Aamir Khan and Anushka Sharma would change your mind.

The two actors, who were voted as the year's hottest vegetarians on the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)'s Indian website, PETAIndia.com, talked about the life-altering benefits of a vegetarian and vegan diet.

Anushka talked about the overall impact of one's diet: "It is very important what you eat, as that is what you are," she said. "So it's very important to make sure you're eating enough vegetables and drinking enough water, which I've always done."

Aamir, however, has switched over to a vegan lifestyle after his wife Kiran Rao showed him a video about healthy eating:

"At the end of it, I was convinced that vegans are way ahead of non-vegetarians and even vegetarians," he said.

The vegan lifestyle involves refraining from using any products and by-products, such as eggs, dairy products, honey, leather, fur, silk, wool, cosmetics, and soaps derived from animal products.

PETA India manager Sachin Bangera said that both Anushka and Aamir were perfect examples of 'fit vegetarians' and 'they're inspiring millions of their fans to try plant-based foods.'

I hope the non-vegetarians continue their eating habits and don't make life costlier for the existing vegetraians.

Kiran Rao, Aamir Khan's wife, is a Brahmin from Karnataka South India. She was able to impress Aamir Khan about the benefits of pure vegetarian food. Trust, Aamir has totally given up non vegetarian food. Anushka Sharma is after all a brahmin girl and there is no surprise in her being a vegetarian.

@Ajay vikram Singh thats not true at all ..?yes there is a minute percentage changing to vegan life style but majority of them are non veg.... I live in UK and have to frequently travel to most of the European countries and even based on statistics it's not true..... I am a Doctor and know that the body needs animal proteins....human body has the enzymes to absorb animal proteins and we have teeth designed to eat both veg and meat.....unlike veg animals which have only flat teeth and carnivorous animals which have only pointed teeth....still if anyone wishes to be vegan it's his personal choice but doesn't mean scientifically it's better than non veg...

i have some logics in support of being veg 1)the structure of human teeth and jaws is identical to herbivores like buffalo ,horse and cow not that of carnivores those have canines and claws 2)we drink water with the help of lips similar to herbivores not like carnivores those drink water with help of tongue 3)one can live whole life entirely being veg not being non veg

I am a non-vegetarian and enjoy all kinds of food. I think there is nothing wrong in being a non-veg or a vegan. It all depends upon personal choice. Having said that, all of us should strike a balance of food in our life no matter that food comes from animals or plants. There is a lot of scientific material out on the internet (especially youtube) that has shown us that you can live longer and healthier if you completely switch to a vegan or at least vegetarian diet. Animal lovers should switch to a vegan diet and also encourage other people to switch as well. Nowadays you can produce food which is tastier and healthier as non-veg using all vegan ingredients.

six billion humans on this earth and all of them can not survive on vegetables, in stone age humans only knew to hunt so the human race survived on animals, millions of animals including sea animals consumed by humans every day and still food is getting expensive day by day, millions of animal species survive by eating other animals, so eating animals is just the matter of survival.

I am a veggie and hence write a comment here to promote vegetarianism. Most people have food habits adapted by birth thro' their parents life styles. Then they justify what they do, be it religion or food habits. Spiritually speaking, Vegetarians have moral superiority while non-veg people have physical superiority. Vegetarians need to do little home work to get all the protein in quality and quantity. It is simple, but need to learn a bit. Economics also tout veggie diet cheaper and good for the planet. Amen.

As per recent survey, about 23% of Indian population is vegetarian, which is mostly concentrated in Gujarat and surrounding region in central and southern parts. The coastal areas, especially in Bengal, Kerala & Konkan belt are all non-vegetarians whose staple diet is fish. Also, north-east India is almost fully non-vegetarian. It has been proved that non-vegetarian food brings more aggressiveness in humans, whereas the vegetarian food brings more calmness & sober behavior in humans. However, it is a myth that non-veg food gives strength & stamina. The pure vegetarian animals like elephant (or bullocks & horses) have tremendous power & stamina, but they are not aggressive like non-veg animals like lions & tigers.
