WANA (South Waziristan), Nov 1: The administration of the South Waziristan agency has arrested a 10-year old boy under the Frontier Crimes Regulations (FCR).

The boy, Jan Shah, belongs to the Mehsud Abdulae tribe against which two days ago the administration began a campaign as part of its crackdown on kidnapping, asking the tribe to surrender certain anti-social elements wanted by the administration.

The father of Jan Shah is already in the administration’s custody.

 Under the concept of territorial responsibility the administration is empowered by the FCR to arrest any person of the locality where an offence has taken place.

In the last two days, the administration has been able to arrest scores of men belonging to the Mehsud Abdulae tribe, also taking their vehicles into custody. The administration has sealed various business points in the area as well.

The other day a group of journalists visited the lock-up to meet the boy Jan Shah. Despite the fact that officials on duty tried to stop them from meeting the boy, they managed to meet his father.

He informed newsmen that a few weeks back his tribe had handed over an alleged kidnapper to the assistant political agent (APA) of the Ladha area. However, he claimed, the accused escaped from the office of the APA after holding the staff at gun-point.
