ISLAMABAD, Nov 1: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf on Saturday announced that it would support the call of the Pakistan Bar Council to repeal the extradition treaty reportedly signed between Pakistan and the United States.

The party’s central executive committee (CEC), which met here, discussed, what it termed, continuing loss of sovereignty as a result of complete capitulation of the government in the face of the US demands.

The CEC resolution stated that the extradition treaty, which was signed in July 2003, allowed transfer of Pakistani citizens to the US without due process of law. This is a clear violation of the fundamental rights of the citizens, making them totally insecure in their own country, it said.

The resolution stated that the treaty was signed in complete secrecy and amounted to abdication of the primary responsibility of the government to protect the lives and property of its citizens.

By accepting the US demands, Gen Pervaiz Musharraf is only trying to perpetuate his rule. He should learn from history, which tells us that as soon as dictators lose their utility, the US dumps them with impunity, the resolution said.
