PESHAWAR, Oct 31: NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has expressed the hope that prudent measures taken by the MMA government will attract largescale investment in the Frontier province.

Talking to various delegations of traders, members of national and provincial assemblies on Friday, the chief minister said his government had launched investment-friendly policies.

The domestic and foreign investors were evincing keen interest in the investment opportunities offered by the MMA government, he added.

The chief minister held out assurances to the delegations that all areas were open to investors where they could invest for the mutual benefit of the province and investors.

He also issued directives to the administrative secretaries for improvement in supply of various items particularly during Ramazan on affordable and fixed rates.

The chief minister said there should be no doubt about his government’s commitment to improve trade activities and industrialization in the province as the future of the province was linked to enhanced trade and commerce activities and that too by active private sector involvement.

Private sector would find unmatched incentives in all fields, he assured the traders.

Mr Durrani said it was time to tap the defined and undefined natural resources of the Frontier province. The provincial government had limited fiscal space to promote money-earning potential and avenues. “We badly need private sector involvement in all areas,” he added.

The provincial government had been laying necessary infrastructure in the target areas so that the private sector investment could flow without any obstacles.

Mr Durrani said the MMA government had evolved a three-pronged approach for industrialization in the province. Cottage industry would receive priority in the scheme of things the government would unfold for economic development of the province. Medium enterprises and industrial units would also flourish under the patronage of his government, he added.

There might be joint ventures in public and private partnership. However, it did not mean that the huge undertakings and enterprises would be discouraged, the chief minister said and added that for the economic growth, industrialization and unemployment reduction, these efforts would bear fruits.

He said on the one hand it would stabilize economy and boost trade and economic activity, and on the other it would provide job opportunities to the unemployed youths in the province.
