LAHORE: The Lahore Commissioner has issued warning notices to three officials of the Divisional Public School (DPS, Model Town) for showing negligence in providing medical treatment to a class 8th student who suffered from high fever during study hours.

Notices have been issued to the DPS’s dispensary medical officer Dr Irfan Majeed, medical assistant Mirza Muhammad Saleem and computer teacher Asif Azam.

“Reference Inquiry Report regarding negligence of DPS dispensary staff towards students Muhammad Awais has been received from the DPS principal. You (staff members concerned) are warned to enhance your manners being employees of a renowned educational institute as such negligence will not be tolerated in future,” a letter titled “Warning” issued by Lahore Commissioner Abdullah Khan Sumbal, who also heads the DPS’s Board of Governors, reads.

The letter further directs the officials to follow the standard operating procedures/bylaws of schools in letter and spirit in this regard.

Some days back the student suddenly suffered from high fever during study hours in school. He was rushed to the dispensary where the staff neither treated him adequately nor informed his parents and the student continued his study in fever till last period.

The parents took their child to a private hospital after he returned home from school in high fever. The doctors told the parents that their son was suffering from typhoid.

The parents brought the situation into knowledge of the DPS’s BoG president (Commissioner) who ordered the principal to inquire into the matter.
