KARACHI, Oct 29: The education department has called upon the teachers to make it a duty to explain and expound during assembly and in class-rooms the teachings of the Holy Quran, particularly those verses concerning the sacred month of Ramazan.

The taught be imparted knowledge about various aspects of fasting, the importance of Sehr and Iftar, the government teachers were told in a circular here on Wednesday.

The schools were directed to display banners at conspicuous places within and out-side their school premises so that students, parents and general public get maximum benefit of the same.

Furthermore, students be encouraged to write essays and articles in Urdu, Sindhi and English to be put on wall magazines of the schools.

The letter points out that great merit and credit has been ascribed to fasting in the traditions and one who fasts is taken in great esteem to Allah.

Fast is one of the tenets of Islam and one who will not fast shall commit a sin and his faith will become weak. Observance of fasting is obligatory upon each and every Muslim who is not insane or minor.

The letter said “today we are rejoicing with devotional fervour on the auspicious dawn of the blessed month of Ramazan. May the Almighty Allah bestow upon us with vitality, vigour and enlightenment to celebrate each day of Ramazan with religious festivities.

“Let us welcome the bounteous month with sanctity and solidarity as a source of lasting Divine blessing, particularly for the Divine gift bestowed upon us with the birth of an independent homeland of Pakistan, where we are leading our lives to the best of our aspirations”, the letter said.

“Let us remember that the holy month of Ramazan has been identified by Allah with his own name, distinguished with boundless showering of blessings on His followers. Hence, It is defined as the month of offering prayers marked with charitable acts of virtuous, good and meritorious deeds,” it added.

“Therefore, we should pass every moment, each day of Ramazan while devoting towards the cause of relief to the poor and down-trodden “have-nots” by providing food to the hungry, medicine and blood to the fatally wounded brethren and at least a hut

or tent to each shelterless family, living under the scorching sun.

“As we are all aware that the Holy Quran was revealed on the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon Him) in this very sacred month of Ramazan, adding to its significance in the history of international affairs. Let us pledge to maintain, preserve and observe the sanctity of the holy month of Ramazan by following the teachings of the Holy Quran, by adhering to the cause of Quranic injunctions.

“It is, therefore, needless to emphasize that both teachers and taught should participate whole-heatedly and voluntarily in this noble cause. This office be kept abreast of the steps taken in this regard”.—APP
