KARACHI, Oct 12: Almost all passenger trains scheduled for upcountry, on Friday, had to leave with 40 to 50 percent under capacity, as people who had booked the seats could not make it for want of transport as the city remained paralysed in the wake of the strike call.

The call was given by the Pak-Afghan Defence Council, to protest against the wanton bombardment of US-British forces on Afghanistan and to express solidarity with the people of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

According to Pakistan Railways sources, the trains scheduled for upcountry during early hours on Friday departed to their destination with sparse passengers. About half-a-dozen trains suffered due to the strike and include Shalimar Express, Awami Express, Tezrao, Super Express, Allama Iqbal Express, Tezgam and Balochistan Express.

However, other trains whose departure was scheduled in the afternoon, such as Karachi Express, Faisalabad Night Coach, Chenab Express, Khushhal Khattak Express, Khyber Mail and Sukkur Express comparatively covered the capacity of the passengers.
